Best option for grass that tall is a brush saw attachment on a weed whacker. This is better for here and there brush as you treck through a forest.

the description says tempered steel. it seems very strong to me!

Does it come sharpened?

Yes. The machete is very sharp. Good for softer brush, cactus, agave. For thicker heavier branches you need the steel Tramontina machete.
