When plugged into a car or similar radio via the usb, can you still use all of its functions? For instance, can you skip ahead to other albums?

I've had this MP3 player for about 3 years now. I used to drive a Chevy Speark. When I would plug the MP3 player into the USB port, I had full functionality via the vehicles radio. I now drive a Chevy Trax. When I plug this MP3 player into the USB port, it will only charge the player. There is zero functionality from the radio. I have to use a 3mm cable, running from the MP3 player into the jack near the radio. The only functionality comes from the device itself. As someone else mentioned, the capability of your vehicle's radio will be the determining factor.

Can this player work without batteries if just plugged in to USB power source?

It doesn't require batteries.  Can use USB, AUX or with the earbuds it comes with as long as it is fully charged

Does it have a menu function where i can choose an artist menu or album menu, or is it only shuffle?

It dose have a menu function where you can select a folder and then select what ever it is that you downloaded to the player, whether artist, album or song via jog dial ... you can create your own folders as well ... works just like a flash drive and more because it also has FM radio and the capability to record voice ...

does this record from fm?

Actually, it does record from FM. Tested it myself now and it worked. You have to be in FM mode and then hit the record button to start, and the same button again to finish recording. It will then ask you if you want to save the recording. If you choose yes, it will be saved to a special folder called 'FM recording'. One way to access it is to enter 'Radio' upon turning on the player, then once you're in radio mode, click on the menu button and you'll see that folder among other things.
