Can this be used without oil or is the oil required for use?

From what I've learned, from personal experience: Oil is OK if you fill it to the first line (about 3TBS of kernels) BUT Oil can be a problem at 6TBS of kernels (the second line) and had a bit of a smoke issue with it and a mass of burnt to smoldering popcorn in the center. Conclusion: Oil if you let kernels room to expand and move around aka first fill line. BUT and this is a big one BUT you need to be on top of things and glued to the microwave to listen for popping and slowing down since it can sometimes mess with cook times and it seems super inconsistent. For me, I do about 4.5 Minutes (my microwave is weird and came with the house, was fancy at one point but at 15yrs old, is showing its age) for 3TBS and 5.5 for 6TBS, and oil can sometimes speed it up or slow it down, since the oil is acting as an insulator. So in winter (like we are now) my oil is colder, but in summer, it's room temperature thus needs less time to warm up. Hoped that helped.

How much popcorn after it pops?

It pops around 1/3 of a cup, which is around 5.3 Tablespoons. For comparison, a large/standard bag of microwave popcorn is around 4 Tablespoons. The Hotpop leaves far fewer unpopped kernels than the bagged stuff, though, so the volume of cooked popcorn is probably quite a bit greater than the raw difference would indicate. Two batches in the Hotpop should be roughly equal to three large microwaveable bags.
