Unexpectedly Touching
I found myself unexpectedly touched by this autobiography. Having read it, I consider Bernie Brillstein a friend. With no self-praise, Brillstein shows himself to be a man of decency, of compassion, of empathy. He began in his profession as an agent at William Morris, dreaming of representing mid-Century comics such as Jackie Gleason and Jackie Gale. When he left William Morris, he became a personal manager, starting the careers of dozens of entertainers who have become household names. The stories Bernie has to tell! He survived--there's no other word--until the end of the century, representing Jim Henson, Lorne Michaels, Gilda Radner, John Belushi, Dan Ackroyd and, as the saying goes, a cast of thousands along the way. He created HEE HAW and greenlighted THE SOPRANOS, headed a movie studio for a short time, got fired, picked himself up and started again. His very life has been the personification of the entertainment business; there are few who exceeded his success. And he is the one having the last laugh: He's still here! But along with the chronological report of his professional experience, what he was thinking, how he pulled it off, there is this man, this basically sweet and decent man, and that's what shines through his book. I enjoyed reading about Bernie's fascinating life.

Enjoyable and educational about the entertainment biz
This guy has fought a few wars in Hollywood and he is very candid about how lucky he has been in the business. An added plus to the book is his variety of clients from John Belushi to the Muppets. I couldn't put the book down and read it in two days as it was that enjoyable. The book overlays his departure from his firm and turning it over to the next generation of managers. It clearly was tough for him and he seems to touch on unresolved issues without finalizing them. Read the book and draw your own conclusions on this point.

I can't say that everything is applicable to today but this is probably one of the most fun reads on the entertainment business
If you want to learn about how Hollywood use to work then this is your book. I can't say that everything is applicable to today but this is probably one of the most fun reads on the entertainment business you will ever find. This guy lived a fascinating life that would make a movie itself. Can't really say enough good things about this book. Fun, interesting, insightful with lots of business wisdom. My all time favorite is the Bernie Brillstein #1 Rule of Business...Nobody Knows Sh#t....#truth.

Hard to put this book down
Bernie, I wish I had meet you in real life. This book is like having a conversation with him and discussing his life in show business. The up's the down's and the moments in between which were plagued with self-doubt and ego trips. I could not stop reading this book once I started. I knew nothing of the man before I bought his bio except for what was on wikipedia. I'm truly glad I purchased this book and its worth the read to anyone who wants to know.

All About Bernie
I read a lot of biographies and what I find with some, is that the author thinks that they are more interesting than the people they are writing about.I enjoy reading about how people become successful in their chosen fields, although I didn't really find that much with this book or with the stories regarding the people he represents. If you want to know about "poor Bernie", I would definitely recommend, yet if you are looking for anything vaguely interesting, I would look elsewhere.

The book is amazing and I highly recommend it to anyone who is ...
Bernie Brillstein was a remarkable man. I doubt there will ever be another individual in the entertainment industry who will achieve the status he achieved. The book is amazing and I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in how a kid from NYC came west and took the industry by storm over the next 50 years. RHT

A true Hollywood legen...
I used to work for Bernie. Wish I had read this while he was still alive. He was a great guy and this book captures his voice perfectly. If you want to picture what he looked like, imagine Santa Claus' brother as a manager in Los Angeles.

Some parts good, others kind of drone along
Bernie Brillstein had an interesting career and worked with many well known stars and characters. When he's talking about them, it's a good book. When he drones on about the business and where it's going (this book is from 1999 so some of it is dated), it drags a bit. I'd still recommend it with a minor warning about the end of it.
