Better Living Through Better Chemistry
I met Dr. Bill once when he gave a presentation. He's a very engaging speaker, and he has done a lot for the field of veterinary technology. He believes that a successful tech must have the best, most up-to-date information and training available. This is his contribution to the important, but often dry and pedantic, field of vet tech pharmacology. No, techs are not licensed to prescribe meds, but we do have to understand how to effectively use them, and often we have to educate the client about their pet's treatment.Dr. Bill gives a brief overview of the animal's physiology and the effects of different medications/preventatives. His explanations are clear, and he has a good review section at the end of each chapter. A CD/ROM is included. As with any pharmacology text, new drugs and products are constantly being introduced to the market. It's impossible for any pharmacology book to be totally current. Hopefully, revisions will be frequent...or better yet, updates will be available on the Web for people who already have a copy of the book. But even if some of the information is outdated (and it eventually will be) the principles Dr. Bill describes are important to understand, and this would be a good addition to a reference collection.

Excellent book
This book is required material for some classes in veterinary technology at Purdue University, and with good reason. Pharmacology can be a rather tedious subject, but Dr. Bill's book explains both the normal physiology as well as the mechanisms of drug activity in a well-organized, easily understood way. The book is divided into chapters dealing with different systems of the body (i.e. drugs affecting the respiratory system), and each chapter ends with a list of the drugs mentioned in their different categories, as well as a self-assessment to test how well you understood the drugs and the basic processes. Excellent textbook/student resource! I can now look forward to learning pharmacology with excitement instead of trepidation!

Lots of stuff to learn. A good book though!
I had to buy this book for a class as part of my Veterinary Assistant program at a technical college. Now, I have a Ph.D. so I am not really that stupid but this was a hard class and a really hard but good book. So much information to absorb. It is a keeper. You will learn a heck of a lot from it. Filled with real life happenings that bring the information across.

There is an error with a couple formulas in the second chapter. How can I trust a book with such a simple error so early on. That's as far as I've read in the book so far. Will update when I've read the whole book.

It did it's job
It got to me fast, but the book smelled heavily of cigarette smoke. Other than the smoke smell it was in pretty good condition.
