The biggest thing to consider is that Lithuanian custom requires that you bring something to your host family. I had to do it several times, And, when I forgot the gift that I had brought from the US, I bought flowers. I remembered from the book that you give an odd number of flowers not even number of flowers. Even numbers and white flowers are for funerals. I chose to give 3 red rosesfor the time being and later give them the Vera Brdley wallets I brought from the US, I also found the history to be very interesting.I even visited the holocost memorial is Kaunas.

Great books for travel. I used this in Lithuania and even my country guide didn't know a few things this book had. It was a perfect prep for the trip, and made you understand what is behind some of the cultural experiences.

Very superficial, lot of the verbiage is akin to the your newspaper horoscope it could apply to anything. Errors about food and culture abound. This is a series of canned programs. I bought it for a friend to answer some questions, and I hoped would be interested enough to visit Lithuania. I not giving it to him as it is worthless.

This is an interesting book about Lithuania. Some of the interesting information that this book mentions include the following information: Lithuanian food isn't very spicy and doesn't require a lot of hours of preparation. It has a simple warmth that people associate with home-style cooking. Lithuanians tend to steer clear of using a lot of spices. The forests of Lithuania are the source of the country's leading tourist souvenir trade, wooden items. Most Lithuanians are apartment dwellers who own their apartment unit rather than rent their apartment unit. Finding an apartment usually isn't difficult in Lithuania. However, paying one's utility bills in Lithuania can be difficult. Maxima took over the Iki Supermarket chain in Lithuania. Lithuanians marry young by Western European standards and U.S. standards. In a social situation in Lithuania, handshakes are not the norm, as they are the norm for business occasions in Lithuania.

For a little book, this gem is full of interesting information and neat little facts. It is a quick read but very worthwhile. Would recommend it for anyone wishing to travel to Lithuania or anyone with Lithuanian ancestory wanting to learn about their history.

An informative & interesting quick read!

The author's arrogant and conceited attitude is difficult to stomach. This reads like a teenager's book report on two semesters spent in Lithuania.

Arrived promptly. Useful but a little dated now.

I purchased this book before going to Lithuania. Although it is very general, I did like the short history given in this book. I purchased it as an ebook which means I could carry it anywhere and read it. I recommend this for any person going to visit Lithuania.
