Hamlet or Hecuba: The Intrusion of the Time into the Play

I just finished reading this yesterday and two things were immediately obvious.First, there was more supplementary text pages than actual text, not that these were not helpful, but one wonders if this text should really be its own book, but rather part of an anthology.Second, Schmitt is really working with aspects of genre when he talks about political aesthetics, but he never comes out and says it in his other texts. It is more obvious here because he is working with literature.It is an interesting read, and predates the influx of aspects of "genre" that is currently a bedrock of political psychology.If you are going to read this one, though, you might as well read his seminal work in political theory like "The Concept of the Political" and "Political Theology" to begin with. Like all of Schmitt's writing, these tend to be concise, imaginative and intellectually stimulating.

Schmitt's essay is good, but the book contains a series of texts expendable. Anyway it is worth reading. But not worth buying.
