Great book on Rocks
My ten year old granddaughter loves rocks and collects rocks of every size and description She had a long road trip to summer vacation and this was a perfect book for her. Pleased oh my goodness yes! A perfect Birthday gift along with a great rock specimen. . She was happy and kept sticking her nose in the book as we ate supper... Thanks from her was all a grandmother needs. The pictures are great and it is narrated with ease and style. I have found all of the national geographic books to be excellent teaching tools especially the children s books. it takes the child into the real world of our planet. A child is able to learn quickly about the make up of the rocks and minerals that composes this world they live in.

Perfect for a young child
I bought this for a friend's 7 year old boy who after visiting quartz mines in New York started becoming interested in rocks. He LOVES this book. It has beautiful photos, vivid colors, and interesting facts. Easy to understand and designed almost like a comic book (little excerpts here and there). I might have to order another copy to keep here for my own kids (and maybe myself...) as they were reading through it before I could wrap it and thought it was really cool. The book is also printed on what feels like very durable and probably washable paper. The cover is paperback but feels very strong. Definitely made for a child's hands to flip through again and again.

Beautiful, informative, needs a bit more on actual identification.
This is a beautiful book containing plenty of information about different types of rocks and how they are formed over many years. I wish it had more useful information for a child who has a genuine interest in being hands-on with rocks and identifying those she has found. When kids can get more experiential they learn more. This is more of an informative book than a field guide.

We love these books.
Such great quality. Pages are always durable and if this is your kids favorite topic they will learn a lot and keep rereading.

Great Book for Kids - Beautiful Photos
I purchased this book for a second grader who is homeschooling. We used the book in conjunction with Toysmith Toy Science Rock Science Kit. They worked great together.

Great colorful pictures with short sweet facts and little articles.
My 6 year old daughter is really into gemstones and rocks lately so I got this for her. At first she just looked at the pictures, but recently she brought it with us when she would be waiting around for her siblings to finish with swimteam and she actually read the words. Every 30 seconds she was enthusiastically showing me something and telling me some fact out of the book. I call that a win.

Great book on rocks
This book has been great at getting my homeschooler more interested in rocks. Small book but more accessible for the younger crowd. Was good for my 9 year old. Some of the info fourth graders are supposed to know. She loved it. Great pictures. I bought it because she loves the National Geographic Kids magazine, and this is set up in a similar format.

So interesting!
Bought this as a gift for a young boy. My goodness, though, I think I want to read it! I flipped through the pages out of curiosity, and was floored at the amount of information. It's absolutely chock full of awesome tidbits for the kid who has an interest in the world and it's amazing features. So much to learn, and beautiful pictures to illustrate. There's a few simple experiments that can be done. It looks so interesting!

Great for any child interested in geology and gemstones
Absolutely brilliant. This was bought to accompany a gemstone advent calendar and is of the usual high NatGeo quality. Stacks of information and great images - plenty to look at and learn. I'd definitely rate this as suitable for 6 and up, it's a magazine quality book and worth the money.
