Experience Triumph like a rock star in this rugged boot from Dr. Martens. The combat-derived profile and prominent metal buckle channel exactly the right attitude. The chunky rubber sole keeps you comfortable and adds that distinctive Dr. Martens look. Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

First pair of non-hiking boots ever, and I'm impressed!
It's hard when they don't have half sizes, and I'm also used to european sizing (I buy Feiyues and Vibrams). I gambled on an 11, and it fits pretty well, with a little extra room in the top, but I have stick legs, so whatever.I use them as riding boots on my (unfortunately non-triumph) motorcycle, and they feel solid, fit under my shifter, and give me good grip on the pegs. Obviously, the shifter is scraping the leather, but I kinda like it. It kinda feels like a badge of honor that proves purpose. In short: Comfy, sexy, useful, not exorbitantly expensive... Go for it.-Ian

Great boots, especially for the price
I've had really mixed experiences with Dr. Martens products from about '95-on (the old "they don't make 'em like they used to" line is quite applicable....), but after several months of owning the Triumph 1460's, I've had nothing but good experiences. While they looked a bit too rounded and clownish when I first got them, and the leather strap was way too stiff to easily buckle up, they have really broken in very nicely, with the leather softening up and changing the overall look/function of the boot, in a good way.Only complaint is a minor one--no matter how much I condition the leather, the area where the top leather intersects with the bottom leather (right below the laces) has feathered/curled up, which is a bit ugly and annoying. I'm sure I'm the only person that notices though (I'm sure it would be much more noticeable on lighter colors of the boot).

Awesome Boot!
I ordered these for Christmas for my boyfriend as he needed some new boots and has loved D Martins, he's had the same pairs for about 8 years LOL. I found these myself for him, as he likes an edgy look and loves buckles. He has worn them everyday since Christmas. He loves them, he said he loves that the buckle is real, because it makes them even cooler! He wears a size 8 to 8.5 mens US, so I got the 7UK and they fit him PERFECT! He says they are very comfortable, and he is on his feet all day as a hair stylist. No complaints here, it was his favorite gift. Even better, we got a steal through Amazon/Seller during black Friday and got them 45% off! If you go to Dr Martens website, Macy's or Dillards, the price is $160....Great buy! Very Please! THank you!

Comfortable Sturdy Boots
In my quest for a good black leather boot I searched high and low for something that would be comfortable to wear all had but sturdy enough to take a bit of a beating. These boots are absolutely wonderful. The leather is rich and just soft enough. They are comfortable enough to wear all day and sturdy enough to take on most any work that doesn't require a steel toe.The aesthetic appeal of the boot is really what ushered me towards this boot. The strap not only is a great design element but is very functional for ensuring the boot is secure to your desired appendage. Along with the added interest from the divided tip and the flared laces it looks great with a pair of jeans.

Added a Thicker Insole
Fits a little large, but replaced the thin insole with a thicker one and the fit is better. The top of the boot doesn't fully lace closed, but it is something that I can get used to. Walking around they are very comfortable and I am sure they will become more so as the boot breaks in. The outsole grip is fantastic compared to my old riding boots. Went for a ride in 37 degree weather on New Years Day and my feet were cold, but in 37 degree weather, cruising between 55 to 80 mph, what can one expect? They seem to be constructed very well, but time will tell how well they hold up, but I am expecting them to last for a long time. I had a pair of Dr. Martens in high school over 20 years ago, and I am not sure why I waited for so long to get another pair.

More for hipsters than bikers, but still a nice boot
The laces that come with it aren't long enough. The two upper eyelets are unusable if you want to tie the boots. The buckle is almost impossible to tighten up enough while the boot is on your foot. If you do manage to tighten it, good luck getting the excess strap (there probably won't be a lot) back under the leather loop which holds it down. For me to use them, I had to set the buckle one notch looser than I'd like while the boots were off and then cram my feet into them. It's a little inconvenient but not a deal breaker. I am a little disappointed in how loose the boots fit with an improperly adjusted strap and laces that aren't long enough to use all of the eyelets. I will order new laces which I suspect will make the boots snug enough, though it is kind of a let down to have to order new laces for brand new boots. The above difficulties lead me to believe these boots were designed to be worn untied and floppy, ala Judd Nelson in the Breakfast Club. I bought these to use as motorcycle boots as their style matches my old jacket. They work as biker boots, though are probably a little lacking in proper protection if that is a concern of yours. With my list of annoyances written down, you may be wondering why I rated these boots a 4/5 stars? The simple answer to that is that they look pretty great once you finally get them on. If I had it to do over, I might buy a different pair (The standard Dr. Martens 1460 in black) but I'm happy enough with these and expect them to become easier to put on as they break in.

Decent motorcycle boot
I use these as motorcycle boots that I also wear them all day at work. After a year and a half of daily use and hard riding they are worn nearly smooth on the bottom and have flat spots on the sides from scraping pavement. They survived a crash just fine and the leather still looks great. I ride with them on sport bikes, cruisers, and dirt bikes without any issues. They get lots of compliments from people. I lace it two below the top and wrap them around the ankle and tuck them into the strap, this is nice so they won't fall off and the laces stay out of moving parts.
