A Walk in the Woods Coloring Book (Dover Nature Coloring Book)

This is one of my favorite coloring books, excellent for adult coloring and very educational for children, as well! Dover has been publishing these kinds of books for many years, on a large number of topics, long before the recent adult coloring book revolution, and I bet you can find some on your bookshelf that you bought years ago! The prices for these Dover books are very reasonable, too, often $3.99 or less, and this one is just $2.81 with free 2-day shipping if you have Amazon prime! The only drawback for these books is that they are printed back-to-back so if you use markers they bleed through and ruin the picture on the other side. However the detailed drawings really call for colored pencils where you can do shading, and this book is perfect for that! Or, you can copy the page you want to color on good quality copy paper of the weight you prefer (I like the Hammerhill color copy cover paper, 60 lb. weight, which is like a very light cardboard like you would use as a cover to a report). This is a wonderful book for adult coloring and also for children, with the wonderful detailed scientific narratives at the bottom of each page. I highly recommend it!

Nice booklet with a story about the woods and drawings (black & white, can color) of various animals. Nice gift for children and nature explorers.

Great quality coloring book, but text-heavy. Other coloring books I've gotten from this publisher have typically one small paragraph under the image to explain what's being depicted, but this is more like a story book, with two columns of text beneath each image. The designs feel more crowded because of it. It's cute though.

I love this coloring book.

I guess I should’ve known Dover would NEVER reduce a great coloring book to such a great price! While it is a very nice item, it’s also not any bigger than a children’s book. I bought 2 copies because the pictures are very nice and I plan to make copies to make it last just a bit longer.

My wife says it’s as much fun to read the information on the pages as it is to color the drawings. The drawings are sharp, the paper is decent quality and there are a few colored sample pages in the front. The detail of the drawings is excellent. She said it was a nice addition to her collection and was well worth the cost, which was actually quite reasonable.

"A Walk in the Woods" is not just a coloring book -- it is a science book that takes the reader for a season-by-season exploration of the flora and fauna to be found in the American woodlands. This would be an excellent book to give to young people (IMO Grades 4 and up) who love to color and also have an interest in science and/or animals, and their parents or grandparents as well. The text may be a little challenging for the youngest readers, so I would suggest it be a parent and child project. For older customers, the pictures to color are delightful -- they are detailed and have some areas that are black for shading. Some Dover coloring books have perforated pages for easy removal, but this book does not, and the pages are printed on both sides, so those who use water color need to take that into consideration.

I work through this coloring book with a small group of 7 and 8 year old children. They LOVE this book, regardless of their general interest in coloring. While they color, I read the information about the animals, birds and plants that is provided at the bottom of each page, and look up additional images on my phone. We learn interesting facts, and they’re always looking forward to coloring book time. Highly recommended.

Beau livret de coloriage pour qui aime la nature, les textes sont en anglais mais je comprends cette langue donc pas de problème. le seul reproche que je pourrai faire est que les dessins se rapprochent de la reliure centrale et c'est donc un peu difficile car celle-ci gène le coloriage de cette zone. Bon et bel achat!

Using it for information, remembering my interest in the animals often seen in my youth, and ‘will definitely enjoy the coloring ahead of me on each page! So pleased with it! It covers a host of facts pertainng to so many forest creatures, and each is so nicely portrayed! Thank you! Kathleen

Hat mir sehr gut gefallen. Für alle die ihr Englisch bissl aufpolieren wollen und dabei (wirklich sehr) schöne Motive ausmalen wollen. Ich kann mir das fpr einen abwechslungsreichen Engluschunterricht z.B. auch mal vorstellen.
