Review: Wonderful book for beginner photography - Perfect for beginners. I bought one for my 12 yo granddaughter and I loved it so much I bought another for me. Easy to understand, also includes pictures and talk precisely about the settings needed for that picture! Review: Inspiring Publication - Great book. Iโm a long time hobbyist dating back to the sixties and 35 mm days. Really gives great pointers on different types and conditions of photography. The photos are fantastic and inspiring. I really wish they had posted the camera settings on all those photos. It wouldโve really helped.

Great Beginners Guide
A wonderful beginners guide to photography, it makes an excellent gift for anyone just starting out. It is particularly appropriate for a young person who has expressed an interest in photography.

Helps improve photos
Good book, the only downside is the author goes on a few stream of consciousness rants when providing ideas. Some may like it though. Overall a helpful book.

Worth it !
Just finished reading the book. I am a beginner into the hobby. Anyone starting out in photography would benefit from this book. It starts with the basics and ends with photo editing. Great companion for anyone starting out or wants to learn more. I got the Spiral bound version, and I am glad I did. Would make a nice coffee table book for those into the hobby. In addition, I am taking photography 1,2 &3 at the local community college. This book offers great backup and information on what we are learning in class.

Get the spiral binding! It's worth it.
Love the spiral binding! As others have said, it's beautifully done and helpful, with excellent photos that illustrate each concept. The format of the book has been carefully thought out, with each bite-sized topic placed on two facing pages. I'm so glad I spent the extra $$$ to get the spiral binding -- it allows the book to lie flat. Many of the photos go across the two pages and this makes it so much easier to see them, identify and analyze the concept being discussed.

Love this book.
i love Joel Sartore. i have his national geographic video series and have followed him for a long time. I have many photography books but this one is my favourite for a beginner photographer. Each lesson is short - no more than 2 pages devoted to each lesson. It's to the point, easy to understand and beautifully illustrated with his photographs. He doesn't over analyze, and the reader isn't bogged down in theories and technical jargon. There are the usual lessons on aperture, ISO, shutter speed etc but it is presented very simply. Lots of great tips throughout the book for the experiential learner. The only downside to this book, is that it isn't digital.
