Reliable Smart Charger That Brought a Neglected Battery Back to Life
I purchased the NOCO GENIUS5 to maintain the batteries in vehicles that don't get driven regularly, and it has been one of those tools that quickly proves its value. Setup was straightforward. The included connectors are easy to use, and the charger automatically detects the battery and selects the appropriate charging mode. I especially appreciate that it can be left connected for maintenance without worrying about overcharging, which gives me peace of mind when storing a vehicle for extended periods. One of the batteries I used it on had been sitting for quite a while and was struggling to hold a charge. After connecting the GENIUS5 and allowing it to complete its charging cycle, the battery recovered enough to reliably start the vehicle again. While no charger can fix a battery that's physically damaged or completely worn out, this unit did a good job recovering a battery that I initially thought might need replacement. The charger itself feels well-built and the display indicators are easy to understand. I also like that it supports both lead-acid and lithium batteries, making it useful for multiple vehicles and equipment around the house. A few things prospective buyers should know: The 5A charging rate is ideal for maintenance and general charging, but it isn't the fastest option if you're trying to charge a large, deeply discharged battery in a hurry. The indicator lights are simple and functional, though some users may prefer a charger with a more detailed digital display showing voltage and charging status. Overall, this is a dependable smart charger that is easy to use, versatile, and well-built. Whether you're maintaining a seasonal vehicle, motorcycle, lawn equipment, or simply want a charger that can safely stay connected long-term, the GENIUS5 is a worthwhile investment. Helpful tip: If you're using it for battery maintenance, consider installing the included quick-connect lead permanently on the battery. It makes future charging sessions much faster and more convenient.

Great battery charger
This smart battery charger worked great. I was suspicious at first. But it completely recharged my car battery. Easy to use.

Not USA made but USA designed
This thing is working great. Easy setup. I used the mounting strap for a permanant mount under the hood of my 2022 Ford E350 RV. I bought this because of the good reviews and that it was said to be a USA made product -- I managed install and hook up in about 30 minutes. I sat down and went through the extra material, real happy with myself over my talented ability to install without instructions (ha, ha). The product is well-made, expensive, sure, but a really nice unit. BUT - It is NOT USA MADE. According to the material that came with this charger, it is made in Vietnam, not in the US, as someone claimed. It is, however, DESIGNED in the USA, but made, or assembled in VIETNAM, or other cheap labor countries, not sure, but mine came from V ... I originally thought I was buying a 100% USA made product, which justified, to my mind, the high price. Will I return it? No, it is doing the job, and is certainly a quality item. I just like to support USA manufacturing and American jobs whenever I can -- something hard to do these days. I buy Ford because it is still a USA owned company, even though half or more, of their cars are filled with components and parts from other countries. It is hard to see any other difference between other manufactures when we see auto plants, like Hyundai, and Toyota, opening assembly plants in the US. The lines get really blurred. Okay, enough -- just be aware -- it is not an American-made product, it is designed in America and assembled somewhere else.

Great compact charger when car needs a quick battery charge
Really impressed with this charger. It’s super easy to use—just hook it up and it pretty much does everything on its own. I like that it works with both 6V and 12V batteries and even different types like AGM and lithium, so it’s pretty versatile. It’s also compact but still powerful, and I’ve used it to bring a weak battery back to life without any issues. The automatic maintenance mode is a nice touch too since you can leave it connected without worrying about overcharging . Overall, solid build, reliable performance, and great for keeping your car or motorcycle battery in good shape.

Awesome product at a good price
I would give this 4.5 stars if it was an option. Great product, easy to use, seems to be built well, lots of useful optional products. What keeps it from a perfect 5: the clamps on the cable which connects to the battery terminals could be a size larger, a small paper instruction sheet would be useful, and functionality to prevent it from appearing to be charging (one blinking red LED) when it actually isn’t, because it is being blocked by the battery management system. In my case (Ford F-350 with AGM batteries), I attached the clamps to the pos and neg passenger side battery terminals, pushed the grey button to light up the AGM LED, and the first LED started blinking. Thought I was good to go. Ten hours later, same red LED was still blinking, had not advanced to the second one. Did some research. Found out that on these trucks with a battery mgmt system, you have to go around it by attaching the neg clamp to a bare metal location on the truck, not the neg post on the battery. So moved the neg clamp to a nearby location on the engine head. First red LED again flashed, but an hour later the second one started flashing, and now three hours later, the third one is flashing. Success!

REPAIR MODE // Compared to an older Noco Genius G3500; using for Solar/PV battery bank
Update (2/15/23): Used this 5A Noco on my car battery the other day. The battery is 4 years old, and the car gets drive at most, once a week, so not ideal for battery health. Once a year (annually), I try to charge the battery. When I hooked it up, and ran it in normal charging mode, it quickly finished (within five minutes). I switched over to repair mode, which applies a small pulsing current, and ran it for two cycles (repair mode shuts off after 4 hours), so 8 hours total. Using a battery tester (measures battery resistance), the overall health improved after 8 hours. So the repair mode definitely does something different than the regular charging mode. Summary: I have had a NOCO Genius G3500 charger since 2017, and it's a great charger. Recently started building a solar/PV battery bank from old marine (Optima) bluetop deep cycle batteries. So the G3500 was getting a good workout, especially the repair function. So I will be comparing this next generation GEN5X1 in that role. I had ordered the GEN5X1 back in April 2021, and this past Black Friday, the GENIUS5 (5A) was on sale, so I decided to add that one. Also use the Kyzee Load Tester frequently while charging, so listing this that as well as a related product. Testing: On an old really dead Yuasa motorcycle battery. Impressively, it was at 3-4 volts, and the Noco started right up in regular (not repair) mode. Going to let this run a couple of days, and see where it ends up (not expecting it to revive this one). Recommendations: 1) In general, the slower you charge the battery the better it is for the overall longevity and lifespan of the battery. The trade off being that you might have to charge a really dead battery for a couple of days. For batteries less than 100AH (the Optima I was testing on is 55AH), a 5-AMP charger is a good middle ground. 2) Having a good battery tester is also a must, I can recommend either of the two below. Pros: Good fit & finish; repair function; name brand recognition; constant product improvement. Cons: None for now. Conclusion: At $70, rating this 5-stars. If you need onboard mounting, get the onboard model instead. Reliable
I have my Camaro hooked up to the Noco 5 Genius everyday since July of 2022 and it has been working flawlessly. I have so much electronics in my car that even with an oversized Interstate battery it will still drain. But with the Noco 5 Genius I don't have that problem anymore and it actually extended the life of my first battery another couple of years. Very easy to use and very reliable.

High quality at a reasonable cost
This charger/tender worked well to "revive" a ~80Ah lead acid battery that sat in a low state of charge for nearly a year. After an initial 2.5 hour cycle in repair mode, followed by a higher amp charge from an older/larger charger, a noticeable improvement in battery performance was observed. A shorter repair cycle, about 30 minutes total, restored some capacity on another lead acid battery still in use. There are cheaper desulfator-only options, of questionable reliability/longevity, so the additional features offered on this model were cost-effective for my intended usage. While I have not yet used this as a tender/maintainer for any length of time, the cabling to and from the charger are long enough to reach from one side of a car to the other. This unit did not seem to produce much heat in repair mode with ~75F ambient temp. In auto charge mode between 25% and 75%, it was warm to the touch. I'll have to try a longer charge period to see if it heats up further. This product did not come with a manual in the box, just the warranty booklet. Tracking down a user manual on the manufacturer's site did not require much effort. The 6V and repair mode are not activated by quick presses of the single button. Pressing & holding for a few seconds activates these extra modes from standby. Some form of documentation in the box would have been more convenient than going to the website, but I digress.

Works great!
Simple to use. Plug in and go! Dad’s car battery always died when he went away for the winter. The car is parked in the garage and the computer continuously tries to talk to the clouds. Kills the battery because it cant get through. This kept the battery topped up ready to rock! I’ll get one for my boat….
