Will this work on HP Deskjet 3634?

I don't have the same printer but they work well in HP Deskjet printers

What is the paper like? Gloss, matte? Thick, thin?

The Avery labels I use are marked Ink jet only however I would expect Avery would make labels for use with laser printers.

Is there any special or additional software that you may need to buy to set up the printing properly ??

I don't know of any. Personally I would not use Avery CD inserts especially for the back. The front inserts are okay but I've even had trouble with them. The back are a joke. First off, they only have one spine. They also are creased so it doesn't look right in the jewel case. The Avery inserts are way too expensive to continually waste on improperly set inserts. I've recently found a much better program called ronyasoft.com. There's a one-time fee of $19.95 but it is well worth it. You'll quickly recoup the money you've lost with the imperfect Avery inserts. I use card stock (65lb) instead of paper which cost just pennies per sheet. With this program you get both spines & they are even lined so you can fold & cut them properly.
