Motorola Rocks
after trying many usb adapter's, this is the only one that gave me instant connectivity and no dropped access. It works great. I had a hard time finding it, probably because its such a great product. I recommend it 100%

Great adapter at a good price
This is a big 802.11g adapter (about the size of an HP business calculator, and a little thicker), but it gives big performance. It picks up signals better than other wireless adapters, and its long USB cable allows you to place the adapter in the best location for reception. It's great for both laptops and desktops.

would probably work if they sent the right one...
as mentioned before, amazon will not ship the SBG900 as they have listed. instead you'll get the WU830G. big difference if you're a mac user - only the SBG900 will work for you.might be the last time i purchase through amazon, if they don't feel it's necessary to send what it was you purchased.

Flaky product, poor support
Note first that the serial number listed by Amazon is wrong. The actual product is the WU830G wireless adapter. We bought two of these and they both have been very unstable, randomly dropping connections even though the wireless router is only 10 feet away. (Another computer in the same room, but with a Netgear PCI wireless adapter works flawlessly.) On one system starting iTunes causes the Motorola drivers to crash. Plugging in another USB device can also cause a crash. An inquiry to Motorola support brought only a lame "reinstall Windows XP." Maybe that would be sensible if the situation was unique to one computer. But not when we're having similar problems with two differently configured computers made by two different manufacturers! These adapters work well for some people but for our systems they have been a waste of time and money. Before buying one of these ask yourself the Dirty Harry question -- "am I feeling lucky today?"

Connect it, set up and go. Works very well through multiple levels.
If you don't have a wireless card or Wi-Fi card on your portable computer, you need a USB adapter like this one to connect to a Wireless LAN. In reality, it wasn't that expensive for the high quality connection received.Used this in tandem with the Motorola Wireless Cable Modem Gateway SBG900. It recognizes very well and with a little positioning it will tell you via the desktop icon if it is gaining clearly a signal quality at 100% and also a strength % as well.My best advice is to move it around to see what has the best positioning for signal reception. When used with the SBG900 component, I have seen speeds of up to 54Mbps and avoided having to drill holes to have a direct cable modem connection (wireless SBG900). It's such a small 4" tall device that it doesn't look odd sitting on top of a table or other area. You can even connect another USB extension cable if you'd rather move it more than the cable they provide with this.If you are concerned about seeing it? Place a picture frame in front of it; visual problem solved and still works great! You should know that it isn't silver. The one I got was actually a darker grey color (the box shows it as a silver picture, but after all, I really don't care. It works great.I'm again using this Motorola product with a Motorola Cable Modem (another Motorola product) connected to Comcast. I've heared horror stories about Linksys and other wireless connection units, so I went with the same equipment my cable company provides for their cable box (Comcast provides a Motorola). I'm not sure this logic is the reason why it works so well, but at least I know the component structure is uniform. I would only assume that this item works just as well with other non-Motorola equipment. I connected it to an HP desktop and also a Sony VAIO that doesn't have a wireless or Wi-Fi card. You can take this off and connect it as well to other non-desktop computers with a USB connection if you want to work away from the main computer. Range is approximately 1000 feet. Generally I operate this item on another floor from where the cable modem transmits.Only minor diffiulties I ever had was in hitting the back arrow on Internet Explorer. But with general use, I haven't had a problem.

Motorola Trumps the competition
Two days ago I purchased a Lynksys device, the WUSB54G, a competing product. The Lynksys device worked well until the computer went to sleep, standby, or turned off. Once the drivers were turned off, had to manually assign an IP address. PAIN!So I purchased the Motorola device (pn 512720-001-00) and have had no problems! The data transfer rates appear faster, as does my computers performance compared to Lynksys. Motorola's software and hardware performance definitely outperforms the competition with this device. 5 Stars from me.

It does not work w/Windows 98SE...
They say it does, but I've had mine since last June and I still get an error everytime I turn on the computer. It will acknowledge that there's a router nearby, but it refuses to connect.I've had problems with installing it as well. It would request the Windows 98SE disk that came with the computer, and when I inserted the disk, it would say it couldn't find what it was looking for.Motorola tech support is no help, b/c I asked them what was wrong and they said I needed to download drivers, but that wasn't the case. I just needed to find the cabs file in my Windows folder. An easy fix that I had to find from a random tech site.I'm currently shopping for another adapter, so if you have Win98SE, I would strongly recommend NOT buying this adapter.

Buyer beware - will not run on newer operating systems
Unfortunately if you buy this adapter it will not work on recent operating systems. The driver for this was written in 2004 and is not compatible with newer operating systems.Get a guarantee that it will run on your operating system before you buy it.If anyone knows of a driver which will run the newer OSs please post it here. It wont run on my PC.
