The best thing since sliced bread
I absolutely love this product. I have not used permanent dye in 4 months since using this. I just cover my roots as they grow. It actually last for 5 to 6 weeks for me until my next touch up. I wash my hair every 3rd day. Maybe for someone who washes their hair everyday may not last as long. I find it works best after I wash my hair. I towel dry and while my hair is still damp and put the root cover on for 10 to 15 minutes. Then rinse it out. It actually did not work as well when I applied to dry hair. It's a game changer. My hair is actually healthier and growing by not constantly dying it with permanent dye. Do not get rid of this product. It works for me.

DOES NOT WORK
Absolutely TERRIBLE. Either I got a bad batch or this stuff just simply doesn't work. I followed the directions exactly and it did not cover my grays whatsoever. Tried multiple times. Waste of money and time!!

A little tip goes a long way
I normally do not write reviews but I am on this one because I am aware of all the negative reviews and do not want the product to be discontinued. I have been using this product for about 2 years, every month to a month and a half between my salon gray covering. I am Asian with very dark hair, and even with "dark brown" the result has been somewhat mediocre. The last couple of times I noticed that it hardly covered anything. Then I found out that this product can be used on the wet hair by reading the Q&A, and also read on the internet that the tip for the home hair coloring is the heat. So, I suspected that the reason it didn’t work very well is due to this extreme cold weather, and tried following: - Got in the shower and shampooed the hair to wash out all the hair product - Towel-dried the hair and applied the product on damp hair - Briefly blasted the applied area with hot air with a hair dryer (not completely dry, just to apply a little bit of heat) - Put the shower cap on to retain the warmth and left it for about an hour (probably too long but I wanted to make sure) - Rinse with cold-to-lukewarm water, apply conditioner, and repeat the rinse And Voila! It worked, covering the gray probably the best ever in my previous touch-ups. This time, all the gray was colored, enough to blend in with the rest just right. No more eye-sore white sticking out! I feel that the key is the heat so I will play around with other parameters little more (no pre-shampoo, shorter leaving time, etc) next time.

Love the product for my need!
The 4 stars is due to wishing the product didn’t dispense so quickly. But the best use of this product is if you are trying to go gray, but slowly.I have dark brown hair- probably fifty percent gray BUT by using a root cover (permanent) dye I look like a skunk in between touch ups. Using this semi permanent dye leaves me with mixed brown and gray hair as it grows so that eventually I can stop coloring. But it covers enough so it looks like I’m growing out my gray naturally. A very useful product especially with hair that’s as naturally dark as mine.

Does not cover grays
Extremely easy to use and I wish they would make a permanent dye product. But what we’re stuck with in this product is a dye that kinda turns your hair Brown for a few days, then quickly fades to auburn/red and absolutely does not cover those pesky grays!

Disappointed
Ever since Revlon discontinued Root Erase, I've been searching for a replacement. Unfortunately, this isn't it. I just finished my first tube, and I used several times. I like that it could be used multiple times. It was messy to apply, did not spread easily (on wet hair as instructed), and did not cover my gray on hair line or roots completely. Okay, some hair may have covered but then washed off very quick. Definitely not a semi-permanent. I purchased a double pack because I thought I was saving some money. However, this is not very effective, hence, I won't recommend. I usually trust Clairol brand, but this is an ineffective root touch up.

Almost gave up…until I decided to get creative and mix 2 colors.
After almost giving up on Root Touch up semi-permanent coloring…I decided to experiment. With my dark brown hair and gray roots…Dark Brown touch up barely made a difference. Until I did this: In a small container I squeezed 2/3 part Dark Brown with 1/3 Black. *1. Washed my hair and towel drying to damp…I then swished the mix and applied it with a tiny 1 inch wide utility paint brush. *2. Then placed a clear plastic shower cap over my hair…(just like back in the day when the dye kits came with a plastic to cover during processing.) I think this is the key to allowing heat to help the coloring process. *3. I bravely, left it on for 30 minutes. *4. Rinsed with cool to cold water until water clear. *5. Towel dried. Was surprised and pleased to see my roots were colored….and looked dark brown and not black. I would suggest if apprehensive about adding the black as I did…to first try it on a small section of hidden gray roots first. I had planned on doing that but thought ….just go for it. And by adding only 1/3 black to the 2/3 Dark Brown worked out great.

Does not work on gray hair
This does not work on tough gray coverage. Absolute waste of money for me.

Left it for 20 mins and it has low gray coverage
Have to try it and leave for at least 30 mins hoping to get better coverage. The applicator brush is great and the tube can be used twice, coverage wise is not great but will give it another try and revise again, possibly with black color as I got the dark brown and is not enough for black hair

Does not colour the roots.
Tried it twice on clean and damp hair. First time kept it for 10-15 min, second time for longer circa 20-25 min to see if it would work. Waste of money.
