EZ-DUZ-IT Deluxe Can Opener with Red Grips

My roomie threw away my Swing-a-way can opener of about 25 years, citing: the blade was dirty, and it was "OLD"! It worked just fine, and after they pulled me off of her, I went about buying can opener, after can opener for several years. I never found one that was as smooth, easy to use, or would last. UNTIL NOW! I won't know for sure about the longevity until more time has passed, but it sure is smooth and easy to use. JUST LIKE THE ORIGINALI ran across the EZ-DUZ-IT here on Amazon, and immediately bought one. It works like the old Swing-a-way that is now made in china and does not last like the original ones. I won't know for about 5 years if this one is as good, but the first month of owning one is promising!How did EZ-DUZ-IT come to be? Looks like good old American "Know-How", might not be dead yet. A family owned screw machine business called "Steuby manufacturing" has purchased the old Swing-A-Way equipment, and put it back to work. They are now creating American manufacturing jobs, and once again making the "worlds BEST can opener". It is an exact duplicate of the Swing-A-Way in look and feel. AND, it is supposedly made with the higher quality materials of the old Swing-a-way. Time will tell. The new Chinese made Swing-A-way no longer lasts like the old American made version. I have no idea why, because it looks the same. But the tolerances, and/or the quality of the material have made the Swing-A-Way into just another throw away can opener.GREAT NEWS!There is even a company out there (http://www.sierravalleytrading.com/) the sierra valley trading company, that is honoring the original lifetime warranty of the original Swing-A-Way. If you make any purchase on their site, and you have an original Swing-A-way where the gears bind, they will do a rebuild of your original for FREE!I have not had to try to get one fixed, but a friend of mine got me a used Made in America Swing-A-way (with the made in America stamp on the metal). It works well, but occasionally it binds on smaller cans. I am going to try to get it rebuilt, and will report back on what happens.First I will try direct through the Steuby company, and if that does not work, I will try through Sierra valley trading company.In the mean time, if you have any doubts about a can opener purchase? The EZ-Duz-It is just a 9 dollar can opener. It is made in the USA, and It really is the best hand cranked can opener ever made, why are you waiting? Try it and see for yourself! You won't be disappointed.

Fantastic can opener! We have a large family and open a lot of cans. In the past 7 years, we have tried OXO, Kitchen Aid and Gorilla Grip. None of these were great. They started off mediocre and only got worse with use. I did a ton of research, wanting something that would actually work like the ones from when I was a little kid. This can opener is it! It blows the others out of the water. Seriously, this one does SUCH a better job! I am throwing all of the others in the trash. It might not look as fancy as the others but dude, does it do its job well! Skip the others, buy this one!

Very sturdy and has a sharp cutter. This can opener operates smoothly and requires little force - my wife loves it! It looks like it is built to last for the rest of your life.

I was looking for a can opener for a friend moving into a new home. I really wanted a duplicate of my old, reliable Swing-A-Way can opener with red handles--the same kind we had when I was a kid. Unfortunately, the current Swing-A-Way can opener that *looks* like my old one no longer bears the "U.S.A" stamp. It's now made in China. I wanted a durable tool made in the US to exacting standards—while also employing people locally. While doubtful about the name, I ordered the EZ-DUZ-IT after doing my research.I can't begin to express how satisfied I am with the "EZ-DUZ-IT Deluxe Can Opener with Red Grips" made by John J. Steuby Co. in Missouri. I'm convinced that this can opener is an equivalent replacement of my trusty old Swing-A-Way.Feel: Solid, comforting weight with smooth rubberized grip, familiar turning handle, and even the bottle top opener on the side. The exposed edges of the can opener are sufficiently smooth; I have no concerns about a child or an elder injuring themselves.Function: The opener works like a charm: Easy puncture of the lid when closing the can opener, and easy, smooth rotation removes lids with ease. No serrated edges on the removed can top/lid; no sharper than the lids left by my faithful old Swing-A-Way.Upkeep: Easy to clean with soap & a sponge; I don't use a dishwasher but this tool could easily withstand machine washing.I'm so satisfied with this product that I let my friend keep my old Swing-A-Way that I loaned her! I'm confident that the EZ-DUZ-IT will last me for years to come.Note: If like me you'd never heard of this family-owned company, it seems the majority of their manufacturing is for the manufacturing industry. Sometimes simple is okay.Pros:1. Still working after over a year.2. Basic can opener; easy to use, hard to break3. Goes in the dishwasher just fine, don't know if it's supposed to, but I've washed it in the dishwasher a dozen times at least and it's fine. It is important to make sure that it is dried all the way to prevent rust, since water can get trapped inside the blade moving parts and then sit there after you've put it away. Most dishwashers don't get hot enough on the dry cycle to dry stuff like this all the way.4. Hasn't rusted or dulled noticeably, though I don't open record numbers of cans.5. Doesn't take much strength to use, but it doesn't offer any mechanical assistance so it does require some. For this type of can opener, it is easy to use, though any manual opener is not easy if you have weak or pained hands.6. Nice red color, as pictured and a classic kitchen appliance red (matches all sorts of red kitchen stuff).Cons:1. Very, very basic.2. Does not cut the lid off smoothly as a safety feature that many newer openers have-- an issue if you intend to let kids use it.This works like any basic can opener, with one safety feature people don't seem to get. Since it does not "hold onto" the lid (some openers even have a magnet that does this) or cut it off without a sharp edge, it leaves a small uncut portion so that the lid doesn't come all the way off the can, but instead hinges open so that you can empty it out. This is so that you don't have to grab the sharp lid and risk cutting your hand. It's not broken if it doesn't cut fully around the top of the can, it is meant to do that.Overall this is a good product for a good price. It works, it hold up well, and it's very basic so there's little to go wrong.

This can opener works great and is made in the USA! It is made in the same factory the old Swing-A-Way can openers were made before that company moved their operations to China. I have a old Swing-A-Way and this new EZ-DUZ-IT is equal to it in both performance and quality. Pretty rare in these modern times!

Cuts through cans like butter, easy to handle and just enough heft to feel like its going to last. We burned through multiple openers with plastic handles, this one feels like it will be around for the next few decades. No regrets.

This is the best can opener... wasted so much money over the last 10-15 years on plastic fancy rubbish, wish I never went for the modern stylish kitchen stuff.

I didn’t realise how awful the can opener I have was till I got this incredible thing, like a hot knife through butter.

Our family has had no luck with can openers in the past and this one works great. Recommend it.

So far it's a really sturdy and effective cab opener. Time will tell. I don't believe it is made in the USA though.
