Very effective for apartments.
Works great at concealing smell in apartment. We’ve noticed a big difference. Sits kind of tall so be wary of how you wanna place it when it gets there.

masks the smells
I very rarely write reviews-but this is really a great solution to a stinky problem. I did not think this would work but it definitely does. It masks the smell and it easy to use. I am happy I bought this.

Good System for kitties- GREAT for humans
So, I got this because it was prettier than my current kitty litter holder which works great but is seriously unattractive. The Litter Genie does indeed work but, the truth is that with that lip thing that I really do NOT want to have to clean to- this put my ugly container just ahead of it in workability. Yeah, the old one looks terrible but, on the other hand, it doesn't take expensive refills and doesn't give me something extra that I would have to clean. Since, technically I don't HAVE to have something that looks good (it's not placed out in the open), I guess the old one stays for now.So, why the 5 stars?Well, because, like I said before: Litter Genie is a great system, I just happen to have one that works just a little better FOR ME. So, that doesn't mean that it doesn't work or that it's a bad product and I refuse to dock stars from a decent system just because my lifestyle works better with something slightly different. That and, I'll admit that the off-label use that I've found for it is an absolute GOD SEND.See, I live mostly alone with the husband gone on business more often then not. Unfortunately, an injury has seriously reduced my ability to walk/stand right now and, of course, the dumpster is across the rather large apartment complex. This all means that taking out the trash on a daily basis just isn't needed (the bags just don't fill up that fast) and also, physically impossible for me. We also have no garbage disposal in the sink either. A girl still has to eat though and table/kitchen scraps do indeed happen. Well, needless to say that putting those scraps into the trash can indeed start to stink up the ENTIRE PLACE in just a few hours...Starting to see where this is going? ;)Yep. I was standing there with this actually pretty darned good storage/disposal system designed to hold in the stench so that you don't smell it that I just didn't need for the cats and a major problem with icky smelly stuff from me that I had no idea how to handle. And, thus, I did indeed intone the most infamous words in the English language:Why not? Worth a try.Usually, these words do indeed lead to disaster but, once in a while- once in a LONG while, they actually lead to something good (which is why we keep saying them) and yep, this was indeed one of those times. For kitchen/table scraps? This thing is PHENOMENAL. I LOVE IT.Now, so far, my method is to drop my morning coffee grounds in with whatever else to try to help (just in case) with odor control and I've always taken it out after a couple of days maximum but, so far, not even raw chicken bones has caused any kind of smell after a full 48 hours.Okay, granted. I haven't tried any longer than that so far for the stinkier stuff but- way I figure it? Even allowing me to wait until I get home from work the next night makes it worth the purchase because that means that I can take it out on a night when I'm not standing in front of the stove/walking around the kitchen for over an hour. :) I have also been able to put off the trash ALL WEEK with non-meat items in there and not a single whiff of stink.Other caveats is that I have only tried it with chicken bones and cooked fat from a steak so far. I also haven't tried it with fish either. Also, mentioned, I have been religiously putting my coffee grounds in there to mix with whatever else to (hopefully) help with the odor control. Finally, I ensure that there is no residue or anything on the bag above the little slider thing and don't use it for anything liquid. All that being said, so far? It's going great and I plan to experiment further as time goes on and meals create different kinds of scraps and life in general creates different lengths of time. So far though- even if it proves to be useful only in the limited factors that I've tried until now? It's proven itself a VERY useful purchase that I plan to keep around and definitely keep using.

Not quite as well made as previous models
Still good, but the materials feel a little cheaper than my other one.Size wise, the main box servicing 3 cats needs to be changed at around one week.I usually just change it before garbage day.We use generic brand liners that work just as well the brand ones.In fact, the cartridge that came with this unit was a total loss.We could not find the end to get it started - pulled out half the roll and gave up.Again - that was not a problem with the unit we got a couple of years ago.It does a great job of containing the smell and I like the scoop it comes with.

Never knew how much I needed this
With 3 cats, & one XL litter box I have to scoop daily to avoid my house smelling. Which would mean constantly looking for a small grocery bag, or using my actual trash bags, even when they weren't full & running them to the garbage outside. This is life changing, I just scoop daily close the lever & NO SMELL. I usually go about 3 days before sealing the bag & starting new (again, 3 cats). Recommending this to every cat owner I know!!

Smartest purchase I've made for my cat
Pros:- Very easy to change and dispose of bags- No smell leaves the genie when it's closed- Design looks cool and doesn't scream "I'm full of pee and poop." NiceCons- The handle is sturdy but requires one hand to pull and the other to hold the genie in place- Depending on your choice of litter, some residue may stick to the top portion which can cause it to smell badHere's a tip: Toss in an air freshener gel in the bottom to keep it completely fresh. So I have one of those Tidy Cat Breeze litter boxes with the pellets that keep their poop on top and the pee goes right through it onto a pad. So a big problem was disposing of the poop because it's not covered by anything so we usually bag it and toss it because walking across the house to flush it got old real quick. So I finally decide to buy the Genie after months of putting it off and man let me tell you. Smartest thing I did.The initial set up was kind of confusing but once I had it set up it made life so much easier. You open the lid, toss the poop, pull the slider and that's it. No smell, no problem. Now I believe on the product itself it said you can change it every 2 weeks but I highly recommend you do it every week. Right now approaching the summer the house is obviously hotter but I made the mistake of leaving it for 2 weeks. Standing near the genie I couldn't smell anything at all. Once I opened it up however, I got smacked with this awful smell. Which leads me to really my only complaint. The handle that you pull to drop the poop and seal the bag could be better. It is very strong which is great but it becomes a 2 hand affair because one has to pull the handle and the other has to push the genie back so you don't drag it forward. Which isn't really a problem but there's a chance for residue to stay on the "loading area" of the bag. That's why I had the horrible smell when I opened the lid, other than that residue the smell is mostly blocked off because the strong handle. But like I mentioned earlier, I'm not dealing with clumps of litter because of the type that we have here, so it's just raw poop being tossed in there. Which can some times leave residue above the blocker and cause it to smell.
