Pogoplug Premium Software

I bought a physical pogoplug and ordered this software at the same time, first of all that is a mistake as they would cancel each other out if they did actually work. The physical pogoplug device plugs into a drive and comes with no software, you can download a program called pogoplug backup which is intended to allow you to acces the drive which will be plugged into the pogoplug device. The pogoplug premium software is a license to allow any locally connected drive on your netowork to be accessed over the internet, like a do it yourself cloud service it requires no physical pogoplug device. In order to use this key you must first download software called pogoplug pc. I have multiple computers in my apartment, both mac and pc so I was able to test the software on a variety of computers. The reality is the software may give you a network error on any computer at any time, I was able to both connect to my shared drive through the software and was unable to connect to the shared drive through this software on all my computers. Sometimes it connects, sometimes it doesn't. I tried a number of variations in firewall and antivirus settings and they seemed to have no effect on the reliability of the software. I emailed pogoplug's support department for help but was given a very basic list of suggestions all of which I had already attempted, disable antivirus, reboot computer etc... I looked through the support forums on their website and noticed a number of similar complaints, but none of them were resolved, each complaint was simply told to email support. I'm pretty sure the support department at pogoplug is there just to wear out anyone with a problem until they just give up. I've also read reviews were the whole thing works flawlessly for some people, so it might work flawlessly for you, but if it doesn't you're not going to get any help and it's really pretty frustrating. I think that pogoplug is onto a good idea, but it's executed very poorly and this is not a fully developed product worthy of spending money on.

To clarify for people who aren't sure exactly what this is - Pogoplug Premium is old software that permitted streaming from your computer and no longer exists. However, the license key included with this can be used to activate Pogoplug PC, which allows you to use your computer's storage as cloud storage accessible from anywhere via Pogoplug's web site or apps. (This is as opposed to using a Pogoplug hardware device and an external hard drive for that purpose) Pogoplug PC is $30 direct from Pogoplug, so buying this for the same license is a steal. Just download the Pogoplug PC trial version, go to the screen that says Purchase Pogoplug PC, and look for the tiny link below the purchase button that says activate existing license. Plug in the code on the card in this product, and you're done. Works great for me - now I have my family's cell phones automatically backing up their pictures to my home server.

Excellent when it works. This thing keeps telling me the subscription or license is invalid. Uninstalling reinstall remove device reactivate and it works for another day or month then crash again. Just when you wan to rely or use it it won't be there for you. I have a couple of the hardware pogo plugs and thought this would be an easy way to get PC content available across the cloud. Not impressed.

BUy the licensing card. Follow the insturctions inside. Download the Free 30 TRIAL SOFTWARE which is the only thing to download. Once downloaded you will be asked to setup and account or sign in. You will then be given the option to activate, and this is when you do so. Then you can download the ipad, iphone or android device APPS. Then you are in buddy.. GOOD LUCK!!!

Well I just ordered the product now. I tried their trial version and I love it so much. The Pogoplug company was so nice and ended up giving me a newer code. Head up just buy for $30 directly from pogoplug. This code here is a scam.

I have been using this software for 2 years now without a hiccup. If you follow the directions it works great.Tips:Drive availability:The computer that it is installed on cannot go to sleep or into hibernation (how could you expect to access data on a computer that is technically not up?)Speed:Also, the speed is dependent on your internet connections upload speed, so if you have a bottom tier internet connection with an anemic upload speed, don't expect to stream HD contentExtra Storage:When you setup your account search around (use Google) first, you might be able to score a free 25gb Pogoplug cloud account first, then once the account is setup associate the PC app with the account. Then you can load your movies and such to the cloud for faster streaming.Software link:[...]

POGOplug isn't going to last much longer with their practices being so shady as they are. Do yourself a favor and find something else. Many free options such as crashplan, so much better.

When you receive the package it only includes a card with an activation number and instructions for downloading the software from my.pogoplug.com. However, the instructions are not correct. There is no longer any software to download. Don't waste your time and money.
