A great $20 investment
This is an LEL meter (lower explosive limit) I used LEL meters in industry for years to look for dangerous situations. For $20 this is a really inexpensive item to assure safety in your home. An LEL would also detect a gasoline leak in your garage, or if your propane tank began to leak. I have mixed feelings about it being 120VAC, as it would not work in a power outage; BUT, it has no batteries to discharge and render the unit useless. I also have smoke detectors, a CO (carbon monoxide) meter, as well as these two new LEL meters. Better safe than sorry!!!

Works Great and Super Easy to Use
Really happy with this gas detector! Just plug it in, let it warm up for a few minutes, and it’s ready to go. It’s loud, reliable, and gives me peace of mind knowing it’ll alert me to any gas leaks. Tested it out and it worked perfectly. Definitely worth it for home safety!

False Alarms
This is a good product. It appears to do what it claims. I have three of these in my home. I opted to use the plug in monitors because the battery operated types do not have the visual "number" indication. Seeing the "zero" displayed is very satisfying when the units is mounted within a few feet of a gas appliance. BE AWARE. The unit will "alarm" for almost any type of gas emission. Ours have been set off by a sink food disposal cleaner and a spray can of disinfectant sprayed inside of a kitchen garbage can. In both cases, a second unit sensed the gas even though it was several rooms away. If any type of false alarm scares you - you might want to consider another option. I kind of like the idea of knowing it works - like a smoke alarm going off when you burn a steak. Good product.

More Gases than you realize!
This gas leak detector finds it all. I would buy many, MANY more if money would allow. This device finds Hairspray, Natural Gas, Lysol Spray in the next room, my “Propane” grill (Pts if you said it like Hank Hill) outside and of course the toxic fumes that come out of someone’s derriere… no joke! This gas detector is a lifesaver... my kids have turned on the gas stove multiple times now and it has saved us many of times... It detects everything!! Including, but not limited to, I just had a milkshake and I’m lactose intolerant, what did you just eat, flatulence. After a particularly impressive display of culinary prowess, aka a very Cheesy dinner, and a tasty milkshake from my favorite local frozen dairy establishment, the detector went off like a 4 alarm fire whistle! Turns out, it wasn't a gas leak, but rather a rather stinky situation…. I could not fathom how this smell just set it off. But with every situation, it didn’t happen unless you can reproduce the results again. In my case, 3 times... Running across the house squeezing tightly so nothing was to escape, I felt as I channeled my inner Mr. Wizard and was able to recreate my findings in an experiment that would have brought tears to Bill Nyes eyes. As I’m wafting the fumes (Homage to my 7th Grade Science teacher Mr. Caldwell) up towards the device... OMG It went off again!!! And SO, for science, the next day, I repeated the experiment with different variables and conditions. This time, as Betty Croker would put it, just over a handful thrown into the direction of this device. Instant 6 on the rector scale proving this device is the “Bomb” in which was just thrown its way… What I was beginning to think was a faulty product, always going off while my dog was in the room, or going off after Chili dinners, It turns out to be a great and lifesaving device!! It not only will save us from natural gas leaks, but also the possibility of walking into a mushroom cloud of darkness in the room after the dog, or myself had just left…. 5 stars on both effectiveness and hilarity of this Gas Detector, and the awesome story I will be sharing for years to come….

False Alarms
I can't recommend this product based on my experience. Plugged it into the kitchen, near our stove and oven. Everything appeared to be working fine for the first couple months. Then, one day, it began beeping nearly every time we baked something. We became worried we had a leak, so we checked every connection for bubbles with soapy water but could not identify the source of any leak. The alarm would usually stop beeping within a minute or two and then go back down to either 0, 1 or 2 and stay there for hours. Then the next time we turned on the oven, the reading would again jump to level 3 or 4 and the beeping would start over for a few minutes. We continued searching for a leak and couldn't find one. Eventually, the alarm started going off at random times, even when we were sure there could not be any gas in the room. At one point I breathed on it, and the gas reading level jumped to a 6 and the alarm went nuts for several seconds. As a final test, we moved a different gas detector into the kitchen where this one was and moved this one into our utility room, where the other detector had previously been plugged in. The new detector in the kitchen consistently showed 0 and detected no gas. However, this detector now consistently showed levels of gas in the utility room between 2 and 3, with the alarm sounding periodically throughout the day and night. This was odd because the other detector had never beeped once over the several months it had been in the utility room. I checked every gas connection in that room for leaks and eventually had an HVAC company come and do the same. Like me, they couldn't find any. We concluded that this detector is malfunctioning and giving false alarms. Of course, I'm about 2 months past the return window on the product, so it looks like I've simply wasted my money.

Easy Install and when tested, the product does detect gas and alert rather quickly.
This product had a simple set up. When tested it did exactly what it said it would do. No batteries, easy installation and detected the gas as the instructions stated it would. The only drawback is the only way to know if it works is if a Gas Leak occurs. Good price in my opinion.

Very sensitive, but works well.
Works as advertised. I will say the detector is VERY sensitive. If you use aerosol cleaners (Goof Off for example) to wash paint or adhesive off your hands near one of these detectors (i keep one in my garage near the furnace) it will set it off. We had one next to our gas stove, and if we left the oven door open a little too long when mixing something we were baking, it was liable to pick up a reading. I dont consider this sensitivity a flaw, sometimes its a bit of a nuisance, but usually just means you need to unplug it and air out the area a bit before plugging back in.

Safety first for you and your family
It is a very good quality thing to have and it gives you a sense of knowing your safe a it tells you what level of any is detected and you only want to see 0 for sure! I think the quality is very good and feels great knowing my family is protected. Plug it in to 110 and your ready to go
