Any reason this unit wouldnt be compatible with a Navien tankless propane water heater in my garage ?

This pump probably will not work with navien tankless. The navien needs to have a .5 gallon per minute to turn heater on, the flow rate will probably be too low. Check your model, navien does make a tankless that has recirculating pump installed. They also have their own thermonic tees that you can install if you don’t have a hot water recirculating line.

Does this have a button that can be pressed to turn the pump on and cycle the water?

There is a switch as a part of the timeclock that can turn the pump to On. Auto, or Off. Then look at the perimeter of the timeclock at the little switches, I think there are four per hour. If you push them toward the center the pump will not run at that time; the pump will run during the times when the switches are in the position farther away from the center.

Plumber said we needed additional parts under kitchen sink and bathroom. Correct?

Additional hoses to couple the bypass device at the farthest sink connection. Of course the pump is located at the hot water heater.
