The Amazon data says NTSC, which suggests that it isn't, and a number of companies (not affiliated with studios) have been producing "Blu-rays" that are actually DVD quality (and format) pressed on Blu-ray. Unfortunately, there's no way to tell except by playing the disc. Thanks.

To begin, let me endorse other comments about Amazon lumping together different releases without any clarification. This is a review of the Mondo Macabro BluRay release, not one of several earlier poor quality releases which can do nothing but add confusion to the Amazon buyer. Now on to “Private Vices Public Virtues” itself …..Very loosely based on the historic Mayerling incident, Crown Price Rudolf is ignoring state duties by remaining at his country estate and thoroughly engrossed in a hedonistic lifestyle that’s intended to shock his father, the Emperor. In fact, virtually the whole film is devoted to lengthy and dazzling sequences of music and dancing, coupled with much nudity, resulting in an orgy when a “Circus of Truth” arrives on the scene. Inevitably such frivolity leads on into tragedy.Directed by Miklós Jancsó, one of the foremost figures in East European cinema, here created an erotic masterpiece that promptly led it to being banned in several countries, though there’s nothing really gratuitous in the presentation. It subsequently became revered as a classic of arthouse cinema, though such definition unfortunately limits the appeal for a film that should be investigated by all those looking for something different.Much cut over the years, Mondo Macabro has now released the film fully uncensored and restored from the original negative, together with Italian and English soundtracks, subtitles and interviews providing an insight into Jancsó and the film. At last I was able to dispose of my poor quality VHS tape copy.

Version anglaise sans aucun sous-titre d'une copie terriblement fatiguée...J'ignore s'il en existe une meilleure.Dans le cas contraire il est urgent d'attendre une restauration.
