Great source for my upcoming travels to Israel and Jordon
I have traveled around the world, but mostly for work. Now it is for pleasure. Four weeks in Italy with side trips to Monaco and San Marino, followed by three weeks in Greece. Now it is time for a month in Israel with planned side trips to Egypt and Jordon. I prefer to research my travels well in advance rather than to rely on travel agencies alone. My interests are both ancient and Biblical history. I am not concerned about beaches and other leisure activities. I have used Fodor travel guides in the past for research and to plan the best personalized itinerary. I am fully prepared to visit as much as possible and to know what I am seeing upon arrival. I often use booking. com, trip advisor, and local online tour agencies to find rooms and specific site-seeing tours at the last minute. Never an issue. Fodor has really helped me with every aspect of my lengthy travels. The best attractions, lodging, eating, etc. It is well put together and easy to follow. The maps are excellent. Don't go anywhere without getting a copy of Fodor's travel guide first.

Very informative book
I bought this book for an upcoming trip to Israel and I started reading every page. It includes information about hotels, restaurants and tips of foods to try, when things are open regarding the Sabbath and Jewish holidays, the culture, economy, customs, events during different times of year, best times to visit, sacred sites, shopping, relationship with Palestine, etc... There are sections based on interests including one on traveling with kids. The book is divided into 9 areas in Israel with a lot of details, tips and useful information on each area. I found this book to be an extremely valuable resource as well as providing a lot of interesting information that I was glad to learn about. Next time I am looking for a travel book on a specific area, I will definitely consider Fodor's as it covers everything and is the only book I will need. I usually end up purchasing multiple books for travel so I have everything covered, but this book does it all. You will not be dissapointed!

Invaluable Guide to Israel
This is the second time we used the Fodor's Guide to Israel on a trip to Israel. The latest edition has more pages but is thinner and lighter than the earlier edition used in 2009. Invaluable guide to Israel and a nice bonus is the section on Petra in Jordan. We used it summer of 2017 and liked the comprehensive and easy to use guide - nice maps of the regions and cities. As a comment it would be nice if the city maps showed parking and toilets - both invaluable to tourists!!I would not travel to Israel without this guide.

Poorly organized and difficult to use
Tried to use it in Israel since Lonely Planet's 2015 guide was not yet available and there was no recent Rough Guide for Israel. I found the book to be very poorly organized and it was very difficult to find practical information. The chapter covering the area around Jerusalem and the Dead Sea hops erratically over Jerusalem from the Dead Sea and Masada to the area west of Jerusalem that includes Abu Gosh, Beit Shemesh, and Beit Guvrin (great place - wear sturdy footwear if you want to avoid a sprained ankle or worse) in the Ella Valley, and then hopscotches back east to Bethlehem - very confusing even for an Israeli expatriate who spent much of his childhood in a village near Abu Gosh and has a greater understanding of the layout of the land than most visitors to Israel. Fortunately, I had internet access for my searches.A pet peeve related to this and all other major guide books that I have seen - why don't they include exceptional playgrounds? Many of us have children to entertain and some countries have unusual or exceptionally well designed playgrounds (The Mifletzet (The Monster) in Israel is a great example of an unusual set of slides combining innovative artistic form with function)).
