Q: Has anyone had issues with their cat jumping over this gate?

Yes, after we'd had this for a week or two, our cat figured out how to jump high enough to grip the top, then clamber over. Another reviewer mentioned installing a curtain rod a few inches above the top, with PVC pipe over the rod, so that if the cat tried to clamber over the PVC, it wouldn't get traction. We did that, and it didn't work--our cat did manage to get traction and climb over the PVC. We gave up on this gate.

Q: do you need to take gate down to enter a room?

You can put a hinge or two of them on so it's a swinging gate. We have something like that.

Q: Has anyone tried using the 44 inch tall gate in a 28 inch doorway?

The 2 doorways I use it in are 30 inches and I use it on the 3rd notch so I bet it would fit on the 2nd or 1st notch. The other doorway in the kitchen I put the gate just on the inside of the doorway against 2 counters. They work great!!
