USE THE INCLUDED WASHERS FOR PROPER SEAL...
Definitely not exactly plumbing code rocket surgery here screwing on a shower head and a handheld hose. But something I ran into you might also and how to fix it. My shower head mated just fine using its internal OEM washer no leaks after snugging with adjustable wrench. However during initial install of the output line to the handheld hose I did same thing only used the inserted hose washer. This caused leaking at the swivel elbow joint. I added the OEM diverter washer included + the OEM hose washer = x2 washers and zero leaks tight seal light wrench tightened. This diverter is not a flow restrictor I read some reviews stated they had reduced GPM after install. This is most likely due to your attachments having mesh screens added usually into the rubber washers. Remove the screens and you'll get max flow out. This is a quality finished diverter product with a smooth turning selector knob and a tight swivel elbow that stays put in the direction of your flex hose as needed.

Rugged design, excellent quality with washers and teflon tape included
This unit is extremely well made from solid brass and is heavily chromed. The lever actuation is a welcome change from the "pull-up" types that clog from calcium deposits in our hard water very soon after installation. I believe the turn lever will work better because of the turn valve design and the mechanical advantage offered by the lever. My quarter-turn toilet shut off's work the same way and they have never clogged. My hat is off the the design and quality departments of this manufacturer because of the outstanding job they've done with this product. The manufacturer has customer satisfaction in mind by overpacking with teflon tape and washers (including a spare) needed for installation. It is so rare to see this quality these days from any country. You won't go wrong with this one....
