You can use a small (watch-size) flat headed screwdriver to push in the mechanism holding closed. There is a little tab to push in the fatter end of the connector. Look closely at one that is not closed, and you can figure out the mechanism.

It is included lace shoes?

Is each pair individually packaged, as for giving as gifts?

Yes. Each pair is in its own little self sealing bag (peel and stick flap like the kind used to display greeting cards, etc). They are well made, strong and durable, and the colors are fabulous!
