How easy is it to set up?

so easy a caveman could do it! ha! lol, j/k it's very easy, there was no assembly required, just need to place it, bait it, and set the spring door.

How easily could you open the cage to get the cats out?

Not too difficult. They usually run to the back of the cage and once the door opens they run out and away from you. Same goes for raccoons and possums. If you're trying to capture them and detain once out if the cage I cannot tell you how difficult that is. Hope this helps. I'd recommend them to anyone. I've even caught squirrels in the smaller cage and caught a raccoon in the small cage.
