She-Ra and the Princesses of Power: Seasons 1-3 [DVD]

Great but incomplete
I love this show, despite it looking like a purely kids show. The show is very different from the original while keeping some of the basic names and ideas. Personally, I think the DreamWorks one is far superior with an engaging story, compelling characters, and better designs overall. Plus, it's much more inclusive and is opening LGBT+ positive. The only downfall of this dvd series is that it's missing the last two seasons, which were the best parts. Hopefully the other seasons will eventually be given their own dvd release.

Wonderful and clever series, but keep in mind that this is only the first half
My wife and I were looking for something light and fun to watch, and friends kept suggesting this. My first response was "you're joking right? That's a kids show that's a redo of an old '80s toy commercial, right?" But after enough suggestions we gave it shot, and it turned out they were not joking at all!First, the downsides:* This is the first half of the series, and the second half has not been released for purchase. You will definitely want to watch the whole thing to get the whole story! While it is available on Netflix, if you are a collector, this is a big downside.* The first few episodes are episodic and a little slow as the series sets up the characters, so don't be put off by the start. It gets into a full ongoing storyline later.* Some of the character and place names are pretty silly - the downside of being based on an 80s show. Not a big problem.OK, on to the good stuff.* First, the show is flat out fun. It has a a great sense of humor (and not the crude body-function humor that's so popular) with some genuine laugh-out-loud moments.* Second, the plot is fun with entertaining action and interesting developments. It isn't an "action" show - the focus is on character development - but its got plenty to entertain if that's what you (or your kids watching) want.* However, the really big thing is the rich characters and character-driven story. These are beautifully developed personalities that grow and change, and it is an absolute joy to experience. Even the villains are portrayed as very 3-Dimensional characters and interesting characters, and have some fascinating (and even adorable) plot arcs. While on the surface the story is a fairly straightforward "friendship and love overcomes", that's a story that can stand to be told a lot and it is VERY well done here. Beneath that, there's a lot of fairly serious themes and topics. While friendship is powerful, we also get shown that sometimes no matter how much you care for and love someone, you just can't stop them from making bad decisions. Sometimes friendship just isn't enough. There are also themes about the dangers of basing your self-worth on other's opinion of you, the difficulties of a parent trying to balance protecting their children and letting them grow, and many more. While the show sometimes gets a bit dark, it is more emotional than grim, and it keeps the realistic and strong themes within a framework that is still totally appropriate for kids. If you want a show to get some thought provoking conversations going with your kids, this is a winner. Then again, if they just want to watch cool princesses fight baddies, they can do that while you enjoy the deeper plot elements. And if you don't have kids...well, I think the character and story arcs are as good and interesting as any "adult" show. Very worth watching!Just please Dreamworks, release seasons 4 and 5 on disc so we can own the whole thing!

A new and fresh revamp of an old classic.
Since my younger years, I have always been a great fan of She-Ra. Now, in the 21st Century, they revamped the series and made it more close to the new mindset. Not knowing what to expect, I took a leap of faith and order it before watching it ("fortune favours the bold, not?).I was conquered. This version of She-ra is close to series like "Aang, the Last Avatar" and "Legend of Korra". There is so much dimension in the characters compared to the 1985 cartoon and you can feel that it is more centered on interpersonal and character growth. It still has many of the elements and themes from the old version, though it is not as Manichean as the old series (and with all its stereotypes), it is still present. In my opinion, they did a great job in also showing that both sides have their own problems and how they overcome them and grow into the persons they are.Once again, one can see here many parallells with "Aang, the Last Avatar" and "Legend of Korra".My message: broaden your mind, watch the serie and enjoy...As for the handling of the item, the sending and all the rest: impeccable service! I got it even earlier than estimated! Very good work!

Very wonderful show, Beautiful DVD
The media could not be loaded. As a person who has rewatched SheRa on Netflix multiple times as a comfort show, I had to purchase this on DVD. The show resonates deeply with me because I have similar trauma as Catra, and in general the show is very fun, exciting, humorous, aswell as wonderfully queer. As for the DVD itself, it played with no issues, no scratches, beautiful hard cover case with a paper sleeve. It came with two decals additionally. Sad that there is no special features included on the discs, and by the fact season 4-5 have not been adapted to DVD yet. But as far as this review goes, 10-10, lovely, cheaply priced, and I am very happy to add this show to my movie collection. I will however note that the disc holders inside don’t always keep the discs inside in place.

Waiting for Seasons 4-5...
Streaming access is ephemeral, and can change in an instant based on a corporation's profit interests. There are lots of us out here who still see the importance of physical media for preserving cultural history over the long term, especially regarding lgbtq+ representation.

Surprisingly good
Fact is I'm a grown man who watches too many cartoons. This might have some flaws, but it's a lot of fun
