Awesome flute, not reccomended for concerts
I use this flute weekly for concert band. I bought it because my 2yr old daughter was showing intrest in my flute. It sounds great though on certain notes I can hear it vibrating. Its slightly larger than a metal flute but that works great with tiny hands like mine. Its pretty strong, Ive dropped it a few times and its usually damage free. I try to not use it at concerts as it sticks out like a sore thumb and the vibrating sound is louder then but it still works.

Blue Nuvo Flute
Lightweight, washable, with soft silicone padded keys. It cost me $200 just to replace the felt pads on my old lead-pipe Jupiter flute. The Nuvo flute is a pleasure to leave out for daily practice or for outdoor use. Gorgeous purple/blue finish—but probably frowned on by most bands. Sound is satisfactory for the price.

Carefree fluting at a great price!
I bought this flute to teach myself how to play on something I could afford. (I already play multiple other instruments, so that theory is not far fetched.) I'm having a blast! It's lightweight and I don't fear keeping it out at all times. Perfect closed-hole flute for a beginner. It's easy to play and sounds good enough, tonally, to my ears. The blue color, however, is a purply-blue, not a true blue. (Which makes it even better, IMO!)

Not good for beginners
I hold Master of Music Education degree, have taught in public and private schools and taught private lessons, and perform as an amatuer on flute at weddings, funerals, special events, and church services. I've been intrigued by Nuvo's plastic student instruments and decided to try the flute. I was very disappointed. It was heavy, fat, and clumsy. The difference in tube size between a traditional flute and the Nuvo flute was disconcerting. I can't imagine smaller hands trying to hold onto it. It felt heavier than my Gemeinhardt student flute, and I struggled to find the correct finger placement intuitively. Tone production required a lot more air than a traditional student flute, and when achieved, was unsatisfying. Intervals are particularly difficult, as are lower register notes. While I relalize that this is a beginner flute, it seems to me that it would produce more frustration than a regular beginner flute. The "first notes" lip plate is an awkward crutch that fails to shape an authentic embouchure for producing a tone, not to mention it basically precludes teaching tonguing. Overall, I found the Nuvo Student Flute to be a disappointment. I certainly wouldn't recommend it for beginners.

Perfect Backup Flute
This is my second purchase. This time as a gift for my niece who is also an advancing player. We both have professional silver flutes and wanted a flute to just leave out at all times for impromptu practice, or travel without worry of lost for damage. The tone and pitch are quite good and accurate. The low notes come out easy after some getting used to the instrument.

WOW JUST WOW
Holy crap is this an amazing value for the flute you get. I was sceptical, but actually playing this is a legit flute. I’ve been playing for 14 years, and I PREFER this over my open holed Yamaha! There must be some bad flutists leaving reviews because the low register is not hard, and the upper register is equally as fluid. The only notes I cannot hit are the absolute highest B natural and absolute highest C (both of which are awful sounding notes on even the best flute) There’s no reason to give this flute anything less than 5 stars! It’s a legit working C concert flute that can do everything a metal flute can’t like outdoor pep band, marching band, or even just going on a walk. Here’s the catch DONT buy this if you’re not already a flutist; This is a secondary/backup for legit flutists. It does have a different feel than a metal one, and a beginner should start on a metal flute for ease as this is not something you’re taking to an audition. (Because people are pompous, nothing to do with the flute.)

Mostly good news. Definitely worth it.
I'm an adult long-time trombonist who took up the flute a little over a year ago, using a reconditioned Bundy student model. I wanted the Nuvo for travel and casual use. I find it to be nicely balanced, very light, with quiet keys; these are especially important to me because I have some problems with excessive tension. Playing anything above the high G-sharp is a bit difficult, but I accept that as a challenge to improve my embouchure. On the other hand, the low C and C-sharp are unplayable, and I know that's the flute's problem because I play in the low range a lot and am strong down there. I'm not sure the slide-out case is a good idea, but I'm certain that the failure to include a strap is a bad idea.

ABSOLUTLY not usable in a band program.
This is my personal view, but it comes from a flute major who is teaching. DO NOT purchase this for anyone wanting to be in a school band program. I played it on the first day out of the box, and the middle range was playable, but it was challenging to make a quality sound. The case is a joke; the packing in the case is a joke. The instrument, after a couple of uses had parts pop off. On the bright side. I use it to show what a flute looks like and how I can make a sound. If you are buying this for a student, FOR THE LOVE OF JOHN PHILLIP SOUSA, talk to your Band Director and no matter what they say, don't buy this for a kid. Sorry, they need to do better.

Nuvo Student Flute
First of all if you are thinking of taking up the flute and/or want to inspire a young person to take up flute via lessons I would strongly recommend you get one of these. First of all you get an instrument that is fully plastic, durable and can be cleaned (i.e. with some warm water with mild soap/detergent) nothing strong though. The price may seem a bit expensive but you will save yourself a lot of money if the person decides this is not for them as you probably know you need a lot of patience. With the metal alloy flute of which for beginners they are silver plated and a new one will set you back a few hundred pounds and if the student of any age progresses to the next intermediate level you'd better be sitting down before you here where the price starts. Also they are not as robust as this one especially in young hands. Please Note - I'm not a professional flautist but I'm returning after many, many years and I did a lot of research also if you wanted to let younger person use this flute you only have to purchase a shorter head and foot joint and it will allow you to save towards a better quality instrument.
