Great unit
I've had it about a month now and it's working great. The 6 HDMI inputs make it very easy to hook up.

Don't even consider it.
The first thing I noticed about this expensive paperweight, is that the sound track is so far off it is extremely disconcerting. No settings alleviate this problem, but I decided I could live with it. The next problem I noticed is that on occasion, for no reason I can discern it starts an extremely annoying, even painful high pitched wailing that only stops when you shut it off and turn it back on. The next problem is when you switch from source to source the sound goes dead. sometimes I have to turn it off and back on, and sometimes I have to repeatedly switch back and forth between sources to get any sound at all. The next (and final) problem I have is the unit has stopped taking commands from the remote. I have researched this problem online, and I found that it is a problem inherent in many Onkyo receivers. This is the straw that broke the camels back. Time to shop for another brand... anything but Onkyo.

Do Not buy, horrible sync bug.
I bought this less than a year ago (literally, October 2015). The video is now faster than the audio. And the sync function is only for audio that is faster than the video.According to the company, there is no firmware to correct this well know hardware bug. This model has been ab abandoned, unfortunately. DO NOT BUY!

Onkyo HT-R593 is great choice for home theater solution
The Onkyo HT-R593 is a super unit for A/V applications. I am so impressed with it, I bought two; one for each house. Cannot give it five stars for two reasons:(a) the Onkyo unit is the same physical size as my very first stereo amplifier that I bought in high school. In the mid 60's! One would think that with the amazing advancements in power and miniaturization chip manufacturers have made in the last half-century, that engineers in the global audio industry could have figured out how to reduce the size of their standard package. What is so magical about entertainment gear having to be 17 inches wide? Consider what Cupertino would do if Apple made audio/video gear.(b) the Onkyo UI --like the UI offerings of most of Onkyo's key competitors-- is seemingly stuck in 1998. It is especially noticeable when streaming content from the internet; for those of us who can relate, it is like working with an early MS-DOS product. If you want something more user-friendly, you can use your smartphone and the Onkyo app as a system controller. But one would think a simple dedicated remote with a retina-like display could be designed. Those two issues aside, this Onkyo unit provides an excellent control platform for switching between all the source devices you may want in your A/V system. Both of our units are built into closed furniture cabinets, so we chose to make short wiring harnesses that allow for easy access to the Onkyo's rear connections panel. Both systems sound great and were easy enough to install. Because of our cable-run distances, we chose 12-AWG braided copper audio cable, and higher quality sub-woofer cable. It was a good decision; high impedance is not your friend when you are assembling a sound system. For one system, I bought the unit with a full set of Onkyo speakers; for the other system I chose the Energy Take 5.1. We get frequent compliments on both systems from visiting friends and family. I believe the HT-R593 is a superb choice in a budget home theater solution.

Great sound, easy setup
I'm very impressed with this receiver. Great sound , easy setup. Replaced older 10 years old Onkyo and I can hear the difference in sound. I'd buy this again if needed.
