Yes it can help with transmission noise depending on the actual reason the noise exists. There are a certain number of moving parts within the tranny , and therefore a number of reasons it could be making that sound. If it is an automatic transmission and there is a loud whining noise then typically the transmission itself needs to be either rebuilt or replaced. Torque converter’s within the transmission housing can go bad and when they do they can make that particular type of noise. I would definitely say check your cars Preventive maintenance schedule and check your records as to when the last time you changed your transmission fluid and filter.
