Why won’t the tap screw snuggly onto the shank?

Mine fit perfectly... Not sure why yours is not... Maybe it's defective.

What size hole in fridge door for this?

I believe I used a 3/4 inch drill bill but it is pretty forgiving. The black plastic flange on the outside would allow for a pretty big range of size on the hole.
