Delightful!
Bebel Gilberto’s 2013 album “In Rio” is, well, delightful! Released by Biscoito Fino in Brazil only, “In Rio” was recorded live – and beachside – in the Arpoador area of Rio de Janeiro. This is the only live album I have in my extensive collection of Brazilian music, and that is because there is no external crowd noise, no singing along by the audience, just polite applause after each number. Mmmm! Nice and controlled, yet still lively. As you can see from the track list, “In Rio” is heavy on Bebel’s earlier material, with nine songs from “Tanto Tempo” (my own fave Bebel album) alone. These are pleasant, light, jazzy renditions of the original studio versions, and really quite enjoyable. In fact, I reach for this album more than any other Bebel CD these days. For me, “In Rio” is the rare example of music that I can listen to intently, one-on-one (my normal listening approach), yet also play while working at my computer – and my normal work approach is absolute silence. With 17 tracks, Bebel more than gives us our money’s worth here. Thank you, Bebel; great job!

A beautiful singer, a singular voice and talent, a wonderful concert,
This concert shows the talent of Astrud Gilberto's daughter. When I saw her in a concert in Mexico City (Teatro de la Ciudad), she stole with her beauty, her voice and her talent the breath of everybody in the theater. Now she sings in a wonderful concert surrounded of the beautiful beaches in Rio de Janeiro and let's show the power of the Bossa Nova. This CD should not be missing in a CD collection of every jazz lover.
