Fundamentals Success: A Q&A Review Applying Critical Thinking to Test Taking (Davis's Q&A Success)

Being a new Nursing student I found one of the biggest challenges to be getting accustomed to answering NCLEX style questions. They just are different from any other testing style I have come across as a college student so far. This is a great book for practicing questions related to the topics covered in Fundamental Nursing courses. The book is organized by topics in different chapters and gives you lots of practice questions. Included is the correct answers along with rationales that explain why each answer is either correct or incorrect. The key to really improving your test scores as well as to enhance your learning you must read the rationales not only for the correct answers but for the incorrect answers as well! I used this book to improve my comprehension of topics covered in class, to study for exams as well as for my end of semester HESI exit exam and found it to be very helpful. I was struggling with my fundamentals class and was barely making it with a C. I got this book 75% through my semester and my test grades increased dramatically. They went from me getting 70's to getting high B's. I wish I would have bought it before the semester started...so I really recommend this book if you are taking fundamentals. It helps greatly with test taking skills and it also gives you rationales as to why an answer would be incorrect...something that some teachers fail to do. This gave me a better understanding of things! I'm keeping it to help me with my NCLEX and HESI exit test! I started off with no hope for passing the course and ended up with a B in the class. Highly satisfied! I will be buying all the series for my future nursing courses!

This book was awesome! I was struggling with the NCLEX style questions on our exams and would always second guess myself, but the practice questions in this book have really helped me learn the skill of picking the "best" answer. On my first test I got a 72 and on the second test I got a 90! I'm so glad I made this purchase and I highly recommended it to anyone who is struggling with the NCLEX style. Each chapter in this book has at least 40 questions and in the back there are rationales for every answer. Please don't hesitate! I know how overwhelming nursing is and this book helped me so much!

I feel that this book is very helpful to a first semester nursing student. It has a great deal of nclex type questions with in depth rationales. I didn't give it 5 stars because I feel that they book could have been set up a bit better chapter title wise at least. I also do not feel like the cd-rom was very helpful, didn't like the CD at all and there was not enough information to call it like having 2 books in one.

I was so nervous when I started my first semester. My first exam I barely passed with a 78, failed my second exam, but the final three exams, I got an 81, 82, & an 89 on the final, respectively. Needless to say, I purchased this book after failing the second exam, sought out some additional help from my advisor, and VOILA! I was so proud of my improvement in studying, retaining, and applying the material. This book was a tremendous help because I LOVED practicing the questions in the book with the assigned readings from another textbook. I wasn't just remembering, I was actually understanding and applying the material AND teaching others in my study group.

I absolutely love this book. This questions are very similar to the ones that my professor put on the exam. This books teaches you how to answer the questions and give you rationales for every answer (even the wrong ones). I went from a 78 on the first exam to a 94 on the second exam and a 91 on the cumulative final (100 questions) by practicing all the because of this book. I passed my fundamentals course with an A-! I will continue to buy all the Success books for each nursing class.

So I have had this book a while. I only like to review when I can give an honest opinsnd I have to say honestly that this is a must have. It helped me pass my class. The first time I took nur101 I didnt have this book and was lost. 2nd time around I got the book and it helped study and get a better understanding of the questions.

Love this book I was struggling with critical thinking in nursing and this book helped me alot I picked up my grade from a C to a B but probably could have done better if I ordered it in the beginning of the semester. I will be also ordering the medical surgical success book as well because it gives you the rationales for the right and wrong answers
