does the TS5350 allow you to select monochome print instead of forcing you to take colour printing every time

You can choose: Colour/B&W Single sided/double sided And number of copies

Does this work with a Chromebook

Yes, and very easy to set up. Scanner works too

what number ink cartridge does it use

Please use this link to find compatible cartridges for your printer - https://store.canon.co.uk/ink-finder/

Can this easily be set up with a Laptop?

The only issue I found was that I use a wifi booster to extend my network, and the printer often connects to the original, distant, router and not the booster. You can avoid this completely by connecting your laptop to the internal wifi server in the printer, but then your laptop won't be on the internet any more!
