DK Eyewitness Travel Guide: Turkey

Just spent three weeks in western Turkey. This guide helped me better understand and appreciate the ruins and mosques I was seeing and also guided me to places I may not have gone. Great drawings showing layout of most of the popular sites to visit. Used some of the hotel and restaurant suggestions, and they were as described. Istanbul map on back pages was a great help when using public transportation. Also used the maps at the beginning of each section regularly to plan my day and then to figure out where I was when I inevitably got lost!

DK is our favorite travel guides for the history sections, photos, and quick references on main sites. This isn't the book you get if you want to find 1000 tiny sites or that random restaurant or hotel. This is more for the quick guide to a city in 3-5 days.

I've used this along with TurkeyTravelPlanner.com, and Lonely Planet to plan my itinerary. The guide emphasizes western Turkey, so I've needed to draw on those other sources heavily. I love all the photos and the sturdy construction of the book. The writing style is also clear and concise. I'll try to remember to follow-up post trip to report if the details are still accurate.

I love the DK Eyewitness Travel Guide as I travel a great deal and I always buy these travel guide book prior to me traveling to that destination. Like last year I went to Morocco and several months prior to going I bought the DK Eyewitness Travel Guide to Morocco. I use it to read about that destination. They are VERY informative!

We usually follow Rick Steves travel books but found this one to be exceptional with all of the detailed information. Lots of photos and maps included. Food descriptions, detailed illustrations of sights and even instructions on what to look for in a rug purchase.

I love the DK Eyewitness guides for study before I go on a trip and then again for when I return home to scrapbook and journal my trip. I love all the color pictures but often don't take the book with me on my trips. The main reason is because the quality of the book with all the color and paper quality make the book much heavier. I'll usually opt instead to travel with the smaller DK Top Ten books which usually include maps.

Great pics and so easy to find what you are looking for. Enjoyed the history and photos. It provided a great overview and was a great source for key Turkish terms.

We used the DK Turkey guide during a two week trip to Turkey and found it to be very helpful. Lots of good advice about restaurants, places to visit, shopping, hotels, etc.
