This is a great headlamp when I'm out in the dark with the cougars and other beasts lurking around the bend. I have really great visibility. I enjoy how easy it is to adjust up and down depending if I'm running uphill, down, or flat. The battery life is amazing. I never need to use the brightest setting, but I do right at twilight and I'll explain why below. The reactive lighting is a bit of a sham. It totally works, but part of the reason the battery life is so long in reactive mode is because it doesn't use the focused beam. Standard mode uses both. When I run, I used the middle of the three settings in standard mode so that the focus beam is enabled. I've run in that mode for 90 mins and only used 20% of the battery. Right at twilight when I can see ok w/o the headlamp, but not quite enough, I like to switch to the highest setting in reactive mode. It gives me just the right amount of light to enhance my view and when I'm going in and out of trees, it brightens when I need it. It wears well, isn't too heavy, and adjusts easily. Easy 5 stars. Very happy I purchased it. Note: I haven't run for more than a few hours in the dark, so I haven't pushed this to its limit. If you're looking for an 8 hour lamp, hopefully others have reviews on that. Good luck!

I have used MANY headlamps, and actually own several different PETZL lamps. This one is by far superior to the rest (except maybe my battery pack one). The brightness is unmatched and I really needed the brightness for my trail runs. It shows FAR and CLEAR! I won't be getting rid of my other PETZL lamps but this will be my go to for nearly everything. I love that it is rechargeable. I am soooo tired of the old school battery replacing and if you don't use for awhile then the batteries explode or leak. I have not been able to test the battery life yet as my runs have been about 1-2 hrs and the light has been strong entire time so I haven't pushed that limit yet. I like the fading in and out depending on seeing near or far. Love love love it

I researched many headlamps for use in the jungle of Panama and Costa Rica. I have purchased several different headlamps in the past with mixed reviews but I always return to Petzl. They are high quality, good adjustability of the lamp, rugged and long battery life. I really appreciate the comfortable fit and light weight. The adjustable lumens is very important to me as I am observing nocturnal animals and I don't like to attract too many insects, which loved the brighter lights. I highly recommend this light for lite hiking and long stays in the jungle

This is my third Petzl headlamp. I love them and this one is no different. You can adjust the headband with one hand. The auto level light is great and accurately adjusts. You can override the auto light to medium and bright. Very long battery life. The only negative is there is no night lamp (red lamp).

Finally a powerful Petzl that’s easy to operate. No hard to remember button pushing sequences. This model has a positive slide of the switch to lockout operation while stowed in your pack while the newer version of this headlamp doesn’t. If a red led is an option you need, I’m afraid you’ll have to purchase the newer version because this model doesn’t have it.

I've been using the PETZL Swift RL Rechargeable Headlamp for a few weeks now, and while it has some standout features, there are also a few drawbacks worth noting. Let’s start with the positives: the 900-lumen brightness is impressive. This headlamp lights up the trail exceptionally well,It's lightweight, comfortable to wear, and the build quality feels robust, making it ideal for various outdoor activities. However, where the PETZL Swift RL falls short is its battery life. I used it during a recent mountaineering trip, and by the third night, I noticed a significant drop in brightness and power. After just two nights of use, the headlamp was noticeably less bright, and by the third night, it was struggling to provide adequate lighting. For a headlamp at this price point, this was disappointing. It’s clear that this headlamp isn’t designed to hold up for more than two nights of intensive use without needing a recharge. This might be fine for shorter trips or day hikes, but for extended adventures, you'll need to plan for charging or carry a backup.

Three adjustable levels of brightness, the brightest being very very bright. Excellent product. As others have pointed out, the button you press to adjust the brightness and turn it on and off is not the most comfortable or easy to press. But I have gotten used to it. This was meant to be a runners head lamp, so you would turn it on and leave it on for your morning or evening run. I use it more like a flashlight to take our dog out in the early morning and night. I do not find the automatic, reactive light feature to be useful, so for me it is just three short presses on the button, followed by a slightly longer press to get to the maximum brightness I always use. Battery lasts a long time between charges.
