Shockingly fast, quiet, and cool. You've found your solution. Just buy it.
I've been lamenting the death of the Raptor line for some time now; but I think I know what happened to that firmware after buying this. It's not running at 10,000 RPM, but it sure performs like it does, and it's very quiet. You will likely have to initialize this the old fashioned way, which I did. It's not going to be just "plug and play" in the modern sense; more "plug and play" in the 2002 sense; but that's fine. It's easy to do and takes less than a minute. In that process, you know precisely how it's set up, which is a rarity with modern components. Don't worry, anyone can do this. It's not a headache; it's just something a new generation may never have done before. Performance is absolute insanity. I never thought a 7200RPM drive would shunt data around like this. I wouldn't have believed it if you told me. It's stupid fast. It's fast enough to edit 4K 10bit without moving the data to solid state. Edit right off the HDD if you want. Gaming? Absolutely. Watch those load times drop, and have a drive that will last a long time. Enterprise drives (the Raptor line was indeed enterprise) last a long time. I've got drives that are forty years old and still moving data. I've got similar WD drives that are twenty years old and have never been parked. The first Velociraptor drive ever released is ten feet from me right now and happily doing it's thing; clear top and all. I stood in the front of the line AT the release event AT the convention and and purchased it right there when the clock ticked over to release date. It still works. This thing feels like a refined Raptor (the improved 2.5 version of the Velociraptor) in use. It's not just for data centers and office complexes. This is for whoever wants a blisteringly fast hard drive that's got a long warranty and legendary reliability and longevity. Gamers, content creators, editors, archivists... Whoever you are, if you're looking at this and wondering if you should do it... Here's your answer: Just click "Add to cart" right now and get it over with. You'll end up with one eventually anyway, so just save the cash and buy it now before you have to buy it to replace a poor decision. Your computing life will thank you.

Used for surveillance system
Works well so far. Can't say anything about durability yet. These are not as loud as the Seagate Exos drives in my NAS.

Another WD Gold winner
The only downside with WD Gold drives for me is the noise: I have bought a number of these, and I don't remember any of them as running silently, although some have been noisier than others. This one is in the middle of the spectrum: the first day or so, it was notably silent but it's now developed a moderate clicking noise. Speed testing with hdparm shows excellent speed. The only downside to this purchase was the shoddy shipping: the shipper used no cushioning of any sort. I don't remember ever buying a hard drive that was shipped in such a casual fashion.

Good for those who value their data
The gold series is, in my estimation, great. I have two of them in my machine and when the other two drives get old I'll replace them with these. The only complaints I have is that these drives are a little noisier than other drives, and in my experience they seem just a tad slower. So they're not for live-fast, die-young gamers. But they're great for people who want to keep their data for a long, long time.

Excellent Product for Good Price
I like that I got what I ordered in a reasonable time. I had ordered a similar product from another vendor previously and was not happy. Consequently, when this vendor delivered what was promised, I was quite pleased with the process.

Came with full 5-year mfg. warranty
I've been using WD RE, Gold, and Ultrastar disks for years now, they've always performed great, and had fantastic reliability. Amazon was the seller on my order, and their drive came with the full Manufacturer 5-year warranty (As checked on the WD website), this isn't always the case with drives on Amazon.

Noisy Drive
This WD Gold drive is the noisiest drive I've ever owned. It whines when it spins up and whines when it spins down. There is a continuous clunk, clunk, clunk while it is reading/writing data. It makes me think that this brand new drive is about to fail. The app, ChrystalDiskInfo, indicates that the health status is good with no errors and it runs at 91 degrees Fahrenheit. Currently, there is only 72 power-on-hours of use on this drive.

I won't be too worried about the noise
Initially i was very worried about the noise of the gold drives and went to search for as many videos i could to gauge how loud the HDD might get. I got the drive anyways because it was 100 USD for 6TB during black friday. I installed it in my mid tower PC case and set it beside my right leg where I usually sit. I could not hear any of the idle 'clicks' and also during sequential read/writes. However, when the drive is under heavy random read/writes, only then could i hear a very faint sound from the drive sometimes. The sound my wall fan makes at low speed is louder than the drive itself. I could understand why people might be annoyed when using this drive for small NAS or metallic PC cases, but I would recommend this drive for it's durability and crazy performance (compared to my old WD Blue) unless you absolutely need a silent drive working within 1m from you. In that case, you should look at WD Red Plus or Seagate Ironwolf HDDs.
