Very Nice Walking Shoes
I got these shoes to have something easier to fasten after my hip surgery. Oddly, I went to a large local shoe warehouse first, but they didn't have a single pair of men's walking shoes with Velcro closures! These shoes have been great. I wanted them just a bit large to accommodate any post-op swelling, and they have been perfect. I usually wear 11's, and these 11 1/2's have been ideal, just slightly loose to allow for swelling and to make them easier to get on. They are still snug enough when the Velcro is fastened securely. I have not found the straps to be too short, possibly since I got slightly oversized shoes. They have been very comfortable to wear, and I use them every day in my rehab walks. I am up to 2 mi/day on city streets and they provide very good support and cushioning. The uppers are of very good quality materials and they are quite attractive as walking shoes go. The soles provide a secure grip. Overall a very satisfactory purchase.

Good price, comfortable fit, quality pending...
No width was specified when ordering, but the shoe size was just what I was looking for, so I went with it. Width turned out to be medium when I really needed a wide. Still, there is enough hook-and-loop leeway to make for a comfortable, well supported fit.I'm just curious how well they'll hold up as an everyday walking shoe.

Good Leather Walking Shoe
Looks like the quality I used to get for forty bucks (decades ago) now costs sixty. Am disabled, thus appreciate the Velcro belts. Very comfortable, and the solid white looks great, not ostentatious like so many running shoes. Leather uppers are a must for me; synthetic ones lead to excessive foot sweating and odor. No such problems with leather - figured this out when I was a teen and tried to get by with cheap shoes. This shoe clicks all the right boxes for me - leather uppers, attractive appearance, comfortable fit true to size, and Velcro fasteners from a quality maker, New Balance.. Great shoe, well worth the reasonable price.

The hurt my feet
These have got to be the worse feeling shoes I have ever worn in my life. At 50 years old, I've worn a lot of shoes. The arch support is so so and the width is a bit narrower than expected. The real problem, however, is the way the back of the shoe was designed. The heel portion is so high it jabs me in the Achilles tendon and rubs blisters on the back of my heels. I bought these to walk while on break at work and when I put my Docker work shoes back on the blisters left by these shoes are at least an inch higher up my heal than where the back of my docker shoes end. These shoes feel like I am wearing half height ski boots. My breaks are only 15 minutes and I can barely keep them on my feet that long. After several walks and scabs on my heels I am ready to give up on these shoes.I give these shoes 2 stars because the overall feel on the rest of my foot is OK and the price is good but the jabbing and constant rubbing on the back of my heel is awful.

Not Great, but not bad
I've wore New Balance shoes for probably about the last 15 years. The past few years I hadn't wore them so regularly. I just had a pair i used as my dirty shoes.I got these because where I work, various oils get on our shoes. After about a month, your shoe strings are so saturated by oil, that everytime you tie your shoes, you got to wash your hands because they're marked up with oil. That's why i went with Velcro. The shoe itself. Not the New Balance I remember. Since I hadn't bought a pair of NB in about 3 years, I tried on a pair at the shoe store to verify my sizing. I had to go a half size larger than what I used to wear. The pair as a 500 series shoe selling for $50. It was everything I remembered about a NB shoe. It was like walking on a cloud. Anyone who buys New Balance shoes knows that feeling, it's so sweet. If that shoe I tried on had velcro, I would've gotten it. Knowing my size, I got home and ordered these . . . a 400 series shoe for $60. Not thrilled about the price, but it's velcro and stores around here don't carry velcro.I get the shoe, and try it on and it fits perfect, but there's no, "walking on a cloud" feeling. It feels like a basic $30 walmart shoe. It's nothing like the new balance I remember. I wonder if I should have tried the 500 series shoe that sells on here for the same price, it's assembled in America also. I went with this because I liked the look of it better but if I had it to do over, I'd probably try the other one.Don't get me wrong, they don't make my feet hurt, they just lack that feel of comfort that's usually synonymous with New Balance.

Great Buy
Because these shoes did not cost an arm and a leg, I was a little concerned about the purchase. However, after I removed them from the box and tried them on, I was very pleased. They are comfortable and well made. I have not had any problem with the velcro closures. I recently did some traveling which required a lot of walking on uneven surfaces. They worked great. They have enough support that the foot stays comfortably in place. I will acknowledge, however, that I purchased a pair of Dr. Scholls heal support inserts to deal with the walking conditions, and they really helped. With that combination, I would not look for any other pair of walking shoes.

It's a works
I have been looking for a shoe with a Velcro closure to replace my Avia, and had tried several, even another Avia. This one fits comfortably and I like everything about it except it seems to have a lowered heel.My right foot is larger than my left, and thus I have an issue. Sizing is so variable amongst shoe brands, and even within a brand. I take a 7.5 on left and an 8 on right--so it is always a compromise. Physical shoe stores don't seem to have depths and breadth of inventory anymore so it is difficult.I had an old standby but it got discontinued, and quality always deteriorates even if can get the same item as before. Sigh!Buying a shoe is more difficult than buying a car, perhaps even as difficult as buying a mattress.
