One of the Best Games Ever
I haven't actually played this product yet, as it is a Christmas gift. However, I've been playing Chrono Trigger (through the use of emulators and ROMs) for over a decade. It is without a doubt one of the best games ever created. Even though its graphics are no where near as amazing as the games of today, its story and complexity are of a quality that is rarely, if ever, equaled. It has an endless amount of replay value given the multiple endings (11 or 12 I believe) and various side quests. This version of the game also has well-done animated cutscenes that are lacking in the original Super Nintendo version. I have very little experience with the Final Fantasy series although from what I've played, they also seem enjoyable. Even if you're not a fan of Final Fantasy, the combination of the two games is well worth the price since I'd pay even more than this just for the Chrono Trigger game. Note: Since this is a Playstation One game, there is a strong chance that it will not play on Playstation 3 consoles. However, there should be no compatibility issues with the older (and cheaper) Playstation 2 or Playstation One consoles.

FF4 greatly improved, CT slow but still great
I grew up in the Super Nintendo generation, and fondly remember many hours spent both playing Final Fantasy 2 (FF4 in Japan) and Chrono Trigger. Now almost 20 years later, I was thrilled to see them re-released with improvements. The bulk of the improvements go to FF4. Compared to the awkward, almost laughable translations of the original US release, the new version is much more readable, the dialogue more natural, and fills in a lot of backstory that wasn't there (including Kain's past and his allegiance to the King of Baron). Also, the features originally removed from the US release are back in, including Cecil's cool "Dark" attack and some missing spells not there originally. That alone makes it a worthwhile purchase. Chrono Trigger takes a performance hit on the PS1 compared to the SNES, especially when transitioning between battle to normal "walking" mode. This irked me somewhat, but i still like the idea of having a hard-copy of the game as opposed to a strictly digital download, and the game is still good as ever. Considering the cost of playing these games again, I felt it was a worthwhile purchase and didn't regret it.

both great games!!
First of all, a good deal like this shouldnt be passed up. 2 games for 15$ give or take is a must pick up especially when both are classics. Chrono Trigger: Seems like this game is a benchmark for RPG's in general even though there were games before it. Fun to play, multiple endings, and the graphics for its time were great! I cant really say enough about this game or anything negative in fact. Final Fantasy IV: One of my favorites in the series hands down. This version is the harder directly Japanese translated version so it was challenging for me in many ways. I have played other FF's but this one was probably the hardest,(the PS1 version)I think I died at almost every boss except the Mist Dragon at least 2+ times, and the last boss took me 3 tries because I was lucky. The load times are not that bad, about 2-3 secs at most so I disagree with all the picky people saying they ruin the game in any way. Overall I love this game, will play it again in the future, just sad I didnt catch on earlier. Hope you all find this helpful in any way.

The Best Old School RPG of all time
I purchased this game for Chrono Trigger as it is, in my opinion, the best old-school RPG of all time. The discs arrived in perfect condition and with a dual-game manual in a film-wrapped case. Note: Chrono Trigger / FF IV will not be able to save and will not be in color on a PlayStation 2 without a PlayStation 1 Memory Card. I was planning on heading to my local mall's old game store to buy a PS1 Memory Card but ended up trying both games on the PS3 and to my surprise, it actually works perfectly after configuring a couple settings. So in my experience, these games should be able to work on all the first three PlayStations. Now as I bought this for Chrono Trigger, that was mostly all I was worried about and it's been a blast playing the best classic RPG I've ever played. Final Fantasy IV is a good game as well, just doesn't truly compare. I'd recommend this to any RPG-loving gamer because it'll either be one of the most intense experiences for you or trip down nostalgia lane, heh. Phenomenal game and fully worth the price.

The Best Role-Player AND How To Fix the Load Time Problem
I've noticed a couple people complain about the load times (especially during battles). There's a quick and easy fix for PS2 owners: In the main menu under the PS1 Driver, there's a setup option for "Fast Loading". When you turn that on, the game will load as fast as the original cartridge did. Problem solved. . And now for the game: Chrono Trigger is one of, perhaps even *the best*, role-playing game ever made. Final Fantasy 6 is my favorite in that series, but Chrono Trigger has a stronger appeal for me, personally, because of the time travel/sci-fi theme. You and your characters travel across several thousand years (from medieval times to a distant, robotic future), in your quest to beat back the bad guys. The battle system allows you to chain your characters together for extra-powerful attacks, which is a unique innovation. Finally, how the game ends is never the same. Like a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure, the ending varies depending upon how you play the game. Chrono Triggers offers lots of replayability, and is a true masterpiece. As for FF4, the game is somewhat weak. Many call FF4 their favorite final fantasy, but I was not too impressed. I'd put it somewhere in the middle. It was originally designed to run on the 1980's 8-bit Nintendo, but at the last minute FF4 was upgraded to run on the just-released 16-bit Super Nintendo, and it comes across as primitive, both in graphics and story. Not as good as what came later (FF anthology). Bottom Line: Buy Final Fantasy 4/Chrono Trigger right now... mainly for Chrono Trigger, but also to satisfy your curiosity about FF4. If you're like me, you'll cherish it forever.

Classic among classics
What to say? If you weren't old enough to have played these games when originally released, and are a fan of RPG games, then go for it. Final Fantasy IV, the first one released for the SNES starts what would be a trademark for many FF games afterwards, including the Active Battle System. It's also one of the most compelling stories of any of the Final games, perhaps only topped by VII. Chrono Trigger, is, without a doubt the BEST RPG made for the SNES; including monsters being in the map and avoidable, multiple endings, and an incredible array of weapons and armors. Character designs from Akira Toriyama, a superb music, and one of the best made characters for these family of consoles. Although the world did not end in 1999 (I expected Lavos with great anticipation), I love this game to death, and have played it over and over again.

I don't believe in Romeo and Juliette.
I bought this collection for FFIV as I already own the PS1 Classic version of Chrono Trigger. This is actually the first PS1 disc based game I've ever played on a PS3. This review is for PS3 Super Slim model. On PS3 FFIV does have some pixilation errors that are mildly distracting, but so far have not disrupted game play. The springs in-town flash, while inanimate objects (tables, chairs, airships, etc. have a flashing black pixeled aura). Of course, the PS3 is not 100% compatible with these older discs, and compatibility may vary with PS3 original, and PS3 slim as by the time Super Slim came around, compatibility was no longer a major concern. Hence why we have the PS Classics collection on PSN. Unfortunately, they removed FFIV from PS1 Classics when they released it on PSP. I remember PS1 discs being black on the underside. This is a Greatest Hits disc. I'm not sure if they are supposed to be black or not, as this was in the latter years of the PS1 system. Just as a note to future buyers, these discs are silver like a regular CD, and not black. Of course, I've also seen PS1 discs that are red and purple as well that I purchased from retail stores when they were still selling them. However, I am pleased to have this copy of FFIV as all releases past this point change the sprites to cutesy child-like sprites. I just can't enjoy those incarnations of the game as I can't see child-like characters dealing with mature social, political, and intimate issues.

Always a dissapointment!!!
I'm always fairly disappointed when a disc doesn't come in it's original case, and this product showed up outta knowhere on a Saturday, it didn't come in it's original case, no wonder it arrived at my destination on a Saturday. 😕 Saturdays in my experience means it's ready to be picked up...
