Excellent honing rod — sharpens, aligns, and lasts
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent honing rod — sharpens, aligns, and lastsI added the SHARPAL 119N Diamond Sharpening Steel to my kitchen tools, and it’s been a game-changer. Unlike traditional honing rods, this one not only realigns the blade but also actually sharpens thanks to its diamond-coated surface.✅ Pros:Diamond-coated surface: Restores dull knives quickly and effectively—sharpening plus honing in one tool.Built-in angle guides: Super helpful for maintaining consistent angles (great for beginners and pros).Solid construction: Feels heavy-duty and well-balanced, not flimsy.Versatile: Works on chef knives, utility knives, and even some outdoor blades.Low maintenance: Easy to clean—just wipe with a damp cloth after use.❌ Cons:Not for serrated knives: Best suited for straight-edge blades only.Aggressive sharpening: Diamond surface can remove more metal than ceramic rods—use with care if you only want honing.Handle a bit large: Comfortable, but may feel bulky for people with smaller hands.🧾 Final Verdict:The SHARPAL 119N is more than just a honing rod—it’s a reliable sharpener and edge realigner in one. Perfect for home cooks and professionals who want consistently sharp knives with minimal effort. A great upgrade from traditional steels.

Well made; easy to use; very effective
I'm very pleased with this honing rod. It has a nice, solid feel to it, and the handle is comfortable to grasp and hold. The rubber end tip is effective to keep the rod firmly planted in place when it's used vertically, and can be removed should you want to use it in a more freehand fashion. The 20 degree angles on the handle are helpful. One quibble is that I would have liked to see a 15 degree guide in addition to the 20 degree ones, but it's not a significant issue. This works great to hone an already sharpened blade to an excellent edge. I use it before each knife use and it has significantly extended the time before the blade needs a full sharpening. It's quick, easy and effective -- the three criteria I look for the most when it comes to keeping a blade at peak sharpness. Very good value for the price.

I bought this diamond sharpening tod in December 2022. Here are my takeways:1. WHAT IS THE QUALITY OF THE PRODUCT?I gotta say, the quality has been exceptional. I've been using for over a year and I probably used it a thousand times so far, as I do spend a lot of time in my kitchen. Extremely sturdy, plastic handle is super easy to grip and it feels great in the hand. It's not heavy, comparing to the regular, steel rod. I noticed some reviewers had problem with the diamonds on the rod, however, after a year I haven't encountered any issues. Maintenance is extremely easy, I wipe it with the dry, terry cloth. Do not wash it in the dishwasher as it will more than likely rust, or the heat will ruin the diamonds.2. HOW DOES THIS PRODUCT PERFORM?Performance is another key aspect of this rod. The fine diamond mesh embedded in the rod, sharpens any knife in just a couple of swipes. Literally you will spend seconds in sharpening your knife. I need to mention, you cannot hone and set the edge with this rod, you will need to use a honing stone for that.3. IS THE PRODUCT EASY TO USE?Needless to say, no instruction is necessary. Few seconds, few swipes and your blade is razor sharp. Cutting through the soft tomatoes or soft meats has been extreme pleasure.4. IS THE PRODUCT A GOOD VALUE FOR THE MONEY?Comparing with other diamond rods out there, that can cost upward of hundreds of dollars, after a year of using it daily, I can say it's extremely great value for the money.5. WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT TO YOU?You know what they say, the most dangerous knife is the dull knife. Well you will not have a problem with this product. I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for super affordable, long-lasting rod, that is easy to use and keep your knife set razor sharp!!

Works well for home kitchen use - not for pros
Replaced an old well worn carbide sharpening rod. Way overdue so my go to knives were in desperate need of a good sharpening. The Sharal119N is a basic kitchen sharpening rod. It is heavy and could be used as a weapon and it required drilling out my knife block slightly. The rod is 9 3/4", the handle 5" and the rod is .470" bare and .477" at the carbide. So it has a .0035" carbide grit matrix plated (nickel?) onto a steel rod. The abrasive is medium light. It easily re-sharpens knives in good condition with just a few light strokes. For dull but not damaged knives it will work, but it will take a few minutes to regrind the edge. I would not recommend this for damaged knives, the grit is not sufficient and hard working the rod could reduce its life. To be clear this rod as with all carbide rods actually regrinds the edge and the amount will depend on the pressure used and the number of stokes. This is not for sharpening anything other than ordinary knives, not lawnmower blades, pruning shears or the like. It is not for hyper sharpening of expensive knives. Knife freaks should pass this up. However, home chefs will find it easy to keep their working knives sharp. It is perfectly adequate for knives that cost less than the sharpening rod itself. It does have minor flaws. There a few spots where the grit has a glitch, you can't see it or feel it it, but you will notice it when sharpening as the blade will hang or click over the spot. Simply rotate the rod slightly and keep going, but for hyper sharpening this would be the kiss of death. My reasons for choosing the Sharpal was that it was round, the right length and I have a lot of experience with carbide sharpeners rods in the kitchen, the only place it will ever be used.
