After considerable pressure from my daughter, whose Asian friend says their family's rice cooker is in use pretty much 24/7, we decided to buy one for our family. After researching quite a few models, I went with the Zojirushi because of its simple design and good reputation. It was a fine decision. We use this thing all the time. My kids love being able to cook rice for themselves.Pros* Controls - strike that, control singular - so simple that even your grandma who could never quite bring herself to use a cordless phone can't mess it up* Very easy to clean* Rice tastes much better than what you get with the stovetop* Works well whether you're cooking a lot at once or just one side servingCons* Does not require you to hook it up to WiFi, install an app on your phone, and confirm your identity just to make it stop impersonating a WiFi access point [OK, this is only a con according to engineers who work for LG]Other Thoughts*Saying it cooks 3 cups is a poor translation - it cooks up to 3 gou of rice, with a gou being a standard measure in Japan of enough dry rice for an entree-size serving. A gou is 180 cubic centimeters, or roughly 3/4 of an American "cup" measurement. Americans tend to serve rice as a side dish, and I find half a gou per person works well. As far as I can tell all rice cookers, even American and European brands, measure their capacity in gou but confusingly call it cup in English. The bottom line is that if you want to use American measuring cups with a rice maker, then figure a 3-cup cooker can only take 2 cups.*Don't worry if Uncle Ben isn't familiar with measurements in gou. To cook rice, all you need is the ratio of water to rice, which is usually 3:2 but can be different for certain rice varieties. In other words, if Uncle Ben says put in 2 cups of rice and 3 cups of water, but you just want to cook a 1/2 gou, you put in your 1/2 gou of rice and add 3/4 gou of water.*The cooking bowl lifts out for easy cleaning. I clean it along with the lid and accessories with a bit of soap and a sponge [sponges without an abrasive side are available on Amazon or at many Asian grocery stores]. A few quick swipes, rinse twice, and it's done.

I saw a friend use this rice cooker at his house while making dinner, and thought that it was neat; rice came out perfectly. I figured that all rice cookers are the same, so I ordered another more inexpensive model of rice cooker that’s similar size (brand starts with an “A”). The rice in that cooker burned, and so I returned it. I ordered this one, which I should have initially, and it works great. It’s well constructed (much more so than the other brand), and easy to use. Rice came out perfectly; fluffy, ideal stickiness. Easy to clean up and small so that it doesn’t take up much space. Highly recommended.

Had to buy a baby elephant brand rice cooker because Uncle Roger recommended them, but didn't want one of the more expensive and complex multifunction ones. So bought this basic one on sale, and it does the job well. Easy to match rice to water levels, cooks all rice grains well, not too sticky and not too dry, and cleans up easily. The only thing I don't like, is that the lid doesn't fit well, could be a touch larger, so took a star off. Otherwise, I use it weekly, and am pleased with the purchase!

Once again I am reminded that easy to use, analog, old fashioned kitchen appliances are often the best!I cook and bake extensively, all of our meals are eaten at home with food I prepare. We eat a lot of brown rice, both in human meals and in my home cooked meals for our dogs.Early last year (2024), I purchased a digital rice cooker and food steamer from another brand. I was happy with it at first, but over the year became frustrated with his clunky, complex use and inconsistent results. Needed a dedicated, analog, easy to use rice cooker for our brown rice.And I remembered the late movie critic Roger Ebert and his cookbook featuring a simple analog, old fashioned Zojirushi rice cooker. Ordered this 10-cup version. So happy with it! It is a easy to use, MUST HAVE appliance in your kitchen. Would also be great in a dorm room.- Old school ease! Just a push down lever for cooking/steaming, and them it keeps on warm. No complex digital controls.- Comes with a steaming tray, rice measuring cup, and rice paddle. The Pot's insert comes out for easy cleaning.- Wonderful instruction manual! Love the dark orange cover so you can easily find the manual. Outstanding instructions, rice cooking and steaming tips, and recipes. (See photos).- Makes perfect, outstanding brown rice, I add a bit of unfiltered olive oil and dried herbs with the rinsed brown rice. I make a whole pot full, and freeze in reusable containers so we always have brown rice on hand.- Great for general steaming, too! I've had yummy results with vegetables, and Asian-style stuffed buns.A terrific value, too. I highly recommend this product.
