Will this gauge be back to zero when you release the button?

This tread gauge is made of zinc alloy material which is very sturdy. You will need to manually adjust it to zero on a hard surface before testing.

Is the measurement highly accurate?

As far as I can tell, I have a barrel gauge which indicates tyres are between 5-6mm whereas Godeson indicates a particular tyre is 5.6mm and other tyres at different decimal points between 5&6 mil. It is cheaper than the digital gauges I found, much easier to read than a barrel type gauge, and I'm quite happy with the fact that as it's mechanical rather than digital it's much less likely to let you down.
