Are there holes in the top plate for mounting a beam?

There are 4 holes in the top and bottom plates of the Heavy Duty Steel Shores. They are 9/16" holes and they are roughly 1" on center from each edge. These holes are multi purpose and can be used to anchor to any surface.

What is the diameter of the post? We need a 4" diameter post

How difficult is it to raise once the Jack has weight on it?

It is easy to do with a strong bar Which does not come with the jack.

Whats the steel gauge? How much shear force it can handle?

This is very very solid. I have it holding up a branch of a 250 year old oak tree that must weigh 4-5000 lbs. No problem
