Worthwhile Slow Burn Supernatural Thriller
"Here Comes the Devil" received some positive press in "Fangoria" magazine last year, and in an interview with the director, Adrián García Bogliano, this film appeared to be in the same vein as "House of the Devil" and "Lords of Salem". Suspense, atmosphere, and tension are the focus here, not relentless gore or sensationalistic imagery for its own sake and this film is worth your time if you want creepiness and tension in your horror. Bogliano adapts a 70's style of film making here- interesting camera angles and close-ups and some Ken Russel styled fever imagery - but not to the point that it feels as if this is merely an exercise in style. He explores an excellent theme of possession that goes beyond a typical "Exorcist" styled, over-the-top presentation and it is more about what we don't see at times which makes this chilling. This is a great addition to some of the newer trends in horror films, in which suspense and atmosphere are the focus, rather than bloodshed. Really, how many more times can one watch another "kidnapped and tortured" film? So if "Sinister", "House of the Devil", "The Inn Keepers", "Lords of Salem", and "Rosemary's Baby" are films you've enjoyed, then this will not disappoint.

Yes, a slow burn, but never boring.
That is if you don't mind dialogue and story development. This story starts off with a bang and then simmers down to bring us slowly into the mystery of events unfolding. The aesthetics are a fascinating blend of grindhouse, giallo and, well, trippy hallucinogenic devil movie stuff. The soundtrack is spot on and never distracting. Yes, there were moments of gratuitous sex, but that felt appropriate to the subject matter. Let's just say that there's some clever editing that makes it an important part of the story it's telling. To tell you what I think it added to the story would be a little too revealing, (so to speak), so if you can keep an open mind about it, perhaps you'll see what I mean.I also compare this to "House of the Devil" but the style never trumps substance and therefore never gets boring, which was my main problem with HOTD. I give it a 5 because I gave HOTD 4 and I do believe this was better. It IS arthouse/thinking person horror, not slasher or torture porn or horror com, so keep that in mind before renting. For those open to this kind of horror film, it is creepy. as. hell.

It’s sexy
I loved it. Low budget yet enjoyable from beginning to end. Well maybe the end was kinda confusing actually. Still it was great 5 stars

Not a slasher
This is for the thinking person type of horror movie. It's not a slasher. It's not a jump out and scare you. The movie tells a story. It's like having someone tell you a legend in the form of a movie. When I finished, I felt like I had just read a good book. The movie stayed with me after I watched it, in a good way. I thought about the legend and what if it was true. Sometimes, after a slasher movie, I can only remember a few kill scenes, not that I don't love slasher films. This is just different. Anyway. I love films like this and I hope to see more.

worth seeing
It's hard to find any original and well made American horror films these days, so if you're cool with subtitles, give this one a shot. There's a decent story here, and although it's not perfectly executed, I overlooked that flaw due to the consistent tension and well designed sense of impending doom. My biggest complaint was that it felt like it could have been at least two different films, but only because some of the themes it touches upon could very well have made into their own movies, but that's a small price to pay for a well done, well acted, b horror movie. Worth a late night viewing if you're a horror hound like yours truly.

Not too bad, for horror fans only
Rent this movie for only true horror fans, its pretty damn good but not the best horror film ever. Anyways, I just wanted to write this review in order to get rid of this "review your purchases!" thing on amazon if you know what I mean. But still, go ahead and rent this movie if you are looking for a crazy good horror movie and foreign horror movies have been doing amazingly better than american horror films lately.

twist ending
Very typical of movies that are in Spanish ...a lot of nude scenes /sex doesn't real show possession . The movie would have been better if it got to the point quicker , the story would have been better if it was more focused on possession the ending was very good . Good movie if you don't mind nudity.

Just so so
This movie had the capability of being so much more. I was truly disappointed. Firstly, its not scary at all. And the subject matter makes it less palatable still. I waited and waited for something interesting to happen, but nothing really does. The only reason I give this movie 3 stars is because the actors have done a great job and the cameraman is excellent. I just wish the director could have injected some more scares into the movie.

Nada nuevo....
Nada nuevo que aportar al genero, empieza con bien ritmo, después se cae el trama, por momentos aburre la película.... promete más de lo que ofrece este título

Fantastic.. And Unsettling..
“Here Comes the Devil” should be classed as Art-House Horror/Mystery, this is not slasher,it’s a thinking mans horror movie, it shows when you think it’s the right thing to do, not always the case, after been lost overnight in a mountain cave, brother an sister suddenly reappear to their parents delight, that’s as far as I’ll go, with that, I love movies like this, especially the ending which gets you thinking, maybe one more is coming, I will warn you, it’s very unsettling with it’s sexuality, and explicit too, for one scene, there is mention of words of when the parents was young, I though I would mention it, so it’s not a shock to you,it works to the form of the movie, if that is any comfort to you, but very uncomfortable like I said, all four characters to this movie was terrific, “Laura Caro” the mother, remind me of Benson, from Law & Order S.V.U.“Francisco Barreiro” the father, and the two kids, Michele Garcia” and Allan Martinez” did a fine job of their work,English. Spanish 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio.2.35:1 Widescreen.Runtime 98 Min.Fantastic.. And Unsettling..
