LIFE IN THE FAST LANE
HOT ROD ROCKABILLY-VARIOUS ARTISTS: Motor heads tired of the same old recycled Beach Boys and Jan and Dean oldies will likely give a big thumbs up to HOT ROD ROCKABILLY, forty fast paced, twangy odes to the road...most which never made it to anyone's car radio. Gene Vincent (Race With the Devil), Carl Perkins (Pop, Let Me Have the Car), and Roy Orbison (Go! Go! Go!) may be the best known artists on board...but Sleepy LaBeef, Warren Smith and Ersel Hickey are well worth a spin, as they weld tricked out country-boppin' beats with cool car lingo and every red blooded male's insatiable need for speed. Caddys, Chevys and Thunderbirds are the real stars here, goosed by gearjammin' guitars, white knuckle rhythms and four on the floor sound effects. Take Hot Rod Rockabilly for a long test drive...see if drag strip-ready titles like Rag Roof Roadster, This Old Bomb of Mine and Brand New Cadillac (which the Clash capably revived) don't spark the eternal lead-foot in your rock 'n roll soul.RATING: FOUR ON THE FLOOR

Smokin' Red Hot is more like it
Hot Rod Rockabilly is Smokin' Red Hot! I Love All Rockabilly so maybe I'm not the best reviewer... but I think even the most hard core rockabilly reviewers would have to agree with me. This is a fantastic collection of not often heard rockabilly music examples. And... It's 2 CD's worth of it! Just GET IT! It won't hurt you or your pocket, whereas, I'm sure, for the cost... This Smokin' Red Hot Rod Rockabilly CD will Fry Your Pants Off! Rock on Cool Daddy!

Good, but a lot of the songs sounded quite similar.....kind of repetitive. Not as good as Psychobilly.

These are the roots of the '60s car songs by the Beach Boys, Jan & Dean, etc. If you are into this, I don't think you can find a more complete collection.
