are the residues safe on the grill and food?

Not sure if the residue is 'food safe', but it's going to be a little gritty and wouldn't want it in/on my food. Would recommend removing grates, whether on the lawn or a utility tub, clean the grates and rinse with a garden hose.

Will these clean rust off a Blackstone griddle?

I do not have a Blackstone griddle so I can't answer definitively but they should work. They are abrasive without being overly hard. I clean my baking steel with them and they remove burned on food without scratching the surface. I prefer them to steel wool. I would not use them on a non-stick surface. They are fine on my seasoned steel and on my barbeque grill. I reoil but do not reseason. Because they are a bit soft they do wear out.

To use, remove the wrapper, place the block with the largest surface area flat on the grill grate and move back and forth across the grate to remove any residue. You can also use a circular motion in addition to back and forth. The block will leave pumice dust as a result of the cleaning, so use a brush to remove the dust (be sure to allow the grate to cool before brushing).
