hansgrohe iBox Shower Rough-in for Shower Faucet Valve Trim Installation

The shower water mixer died, and I chose the Hansgrohe valve for a replacement. Someone was thinking when they designed these boxes. There are in-box shutoffs (Hallelujah!) and just about all the replacement valves and handles work with them. Hats off to the company, even if they are not the cheapest. And by the way, the thermostat-controlled mixer valve has rocked!

We used this product in both bathrooms in our house and had no issues. We have used the Hansgrohe hand shower-tub spout and hand shower-rain shower combo, and it worked out well. It is important that the installer knows how to do this, since it is so straightforward.

WOW, I thought this would be small and light. It is not, very heavy and huge. Well worth the money compared to some el-cheapo service boxes which feel cheap. I used 3/4" lines in and 1/2" lines out w/ an adapter to get max water pressure(also nice, lots of boxes only provide 1/2" service.) Turning once the Hansgrohe 04233000 S Pressure Balance Trim was installed is smooth, solid, easy to adjust micro-increases in temp, and overall great quality. Note, the outer most flange(on the front side) is super deep, so your installer will most likely need to shave some of this off, like ours did, if you are using a standard tile & backer board system. But this means it can easily accommodate if you are using thicker material, like a 2cm solid slab for instance on the walls.

We recently remodeled 3 bathrooms and we are so happy with all the Hansgrohe product. This iBox is genius... To fully appreciate it, you'll need to watch a video at the Hansgrohe website where they animate this iBox for various configurations. It is just plain genius. Hansgrohe made it simple that this is the only thing you use for shower / tub connect... you want a shower only, use the iBox... you want a shower / tub combo, use the iBox... you want a hand-held shower and jets on the wall, use the iBox. You get the idea. Installation is easy but requires attention. Because this is German/European, they do things a little differently than us Americans, and thus your American (I'm assuming) contractor / plumber. First, you have to make sure that it is installed in the proper position... Although it can rotated 180 degrees without consequence, it cannot be rotated 90 degrees. There is actually the word "Top" on top, which my contractor missed. He installed the top to the right instead, so he had to re-do it. Second, all the connections are screwed / twisted on instead of solder like other brands. You'll melt the plastic if you use solder nearby! My contractor soldered all the pipe (short segment) and 90 degree bend connectors elsewhere first, and then twisted them on... this iBox looked like an octopus (with 4 legs instead of 8) when it was installed. Then you can solder those connectors to your water supply / shower / tub outlet. Or you can skip all the copper pipe and use PEX tubing instead. I bought 3 of these and am very happy. I would highly recommend watching the video at Hansgrohe website multiple times, they explain the installation and waterproofing well.

I install these exclusively when a project calls for a shower body. They simply work. No callbacks. I was pleasantly surprised to see the price had dropped. However, I soon discovered why. They no longer include the 3/4" threaded plug you need if you are using a single-function trim (eg shower only, no tub spout). First, there's the waste of time going to et one of these plugs if you don't have one with you. Second, the brass plugs are not cheap if you stop at the nearest hardware store/big box store to grab one. Still, this shower body is top of the hill. I've bought a few 3/4" plugs to keep handy.

I am happy with it only customer service is a problem not product

Our contractor (who has his plumbing license) screwed up the installation because he didn't read the directions! We ended up having to cut out the wall behind the shower (in a closet in the adjoining bedroom) to fix a leak. If you follow the directions, this is a DIY project for the homeowner who can sweat solder copper fittings. The box IS marked TOP, but its hard to see the large letters because they are embossed as part of the shell with no paint or anything to create contrast, so pay attention to that. Also, make sure you install the box absolutely LEVEL according to the directions. This is especially important if you have, for instance, 2 levers on your trimplate placed either horizontally or vertically next to each other.

This item has US "NPT" 3/4 inch treads which are incompatible with UK standard BSP fittings. This item should not be sold in the UK. Adapters cost £50!!!

Great quality product. This universal box is for 3/4 inch plumbing and the materials are strong and sturdy. Recommends professional installation by certified plumber but there is a helpful website video showing installation.. The customer service very helpful. I would recommend this brand.

Great rough in for a shower or bath tup faucets, has it built in shut offs for easy servicing. Very high quality compared to other brands.

Second time using the system and it is easy to install. Yes it’s pricey but worth it for the time you save and the precision it provides
