While the kit may not come with everything you need to keep your firearms in pristine condition, the gear it does come with and the package itself are outstanding! It may not fit the bill if you're looking for the ultimate cleaning kit, but if you want a durable, versatile kit that you can use at home, on the range, or wherever your travels take you Otis has the answer! So much in such a small package: + Brushes and Brass Tips for most common calibers. I've personally used on .22lr, 9mm., .40, 5.56mm, 7.62mm, .30-06, and 12 gauge. Keep in mind, since there are only 3 slotted tips it isn't perfect for everything. + Incredible Cleaning Patches for small caliber and large caliber. These patches are the best I've ever used. I just wish the kit came with more of them! + Though the Memory-Flex cleaning rods aren't the right tool all of the time, I greatly prefer them over the typical rigid/segmented cleaning rods. Even if I end up using a brush or tip from another kit I end up using the Memory-Flex cleaning rods when I can. + Well packaged, well organized. Easy to pick up and go! + The Flag Safety doubles as a decent Bore Reflector. It's hard to find cons, but there's always room for improvement: - The kit is really only good for cleaning the bore since there are no brushes, scrapers, etc. for cleaning the other parts of firearms. However, with a little ingenuity one could fit a some extra tools in the kit. - The limited number of Slotted Tips means you won't have a perfect fit for every caliber. - The provided bottle of Cleaning Solvent is not refillable, so once you run out if you want to carry more in the pouch you'll have to find a similarly sized bottle to replace it.

I purchased this to replace an old aluminum rod kit that was pretty lame and left me uneasy about scraping the polygonal bore of my HK's and didn't really have any additional accessories beyond the absolute basics. When I read the description and reviews here and on the Otis website it seemed like the product couldn't live up to the hype - I was wrong. This is a fantastic kit that fills every current need, and, from what I can tell, will fulfill all my needs as I purchase additional toys in the future. This compact, yet well-stocked, kit offers a wide array of quality tools for the job and I honestly cannot think of any additional accessory that I would need for cleaning. I am amazed at how much stuff they could fit in a pouch that will fit on a belt or pack easily into any gun bag. I particularly like the cleaning patches that are large enough and reversible so they can be used for multiple passes down the bore (FYI - I bought an extra tub of patches based on another reviewer's comment about the number contained in the initial pack being somewhat limited and recommend you do the same - just a thought). I also combined a 3-pack of the Otis brushes into my purchase for the slide, rails, etc. so I am as ready to rock as I'll ever be. Highly recommended!

The otis cable based cleaning kits are head and shoulders above any rod-based cleaning kit out there. Ideally, guns should be cleaned moving the patch smoothly from the chamber to the muzzle, which is impossible to do to some guns using a cleaning rod. The otis kits make it easy to draw the patch through the barrel smoothly and cleanly without any risk whatsoever that the metal cleaning jag with scrape against the bore. The jag is always safely surrounded by the soft cotton patch. This is of course not the case with a rod based cleaning set. When using a cleaning rod, it's very easy to get the patch stuck or have the patch shift to one side of the jag so the jag is being dragged against the bore. This of course can be very damaging to your bore, which is completely unacceptable, especially when you are a cleaning a delicate or expensive firearm you are attempting to preserve. When you pull the otis cable through the bore, as long as you use a properly sized patch, the pull is always very smooth. The patch always shields the bore from the metal jag and does an excellent job of cleaning all sides of the bore simultaneously. With a cleaning rod, sometimes the patch is scrubbing the top of the bore, sometimes its wiggling around and loosely scrubbing the sides. There is no tight, consistent seal on all sides of the bore. The patches that come with the kit are made from excellent, heavy cotton. I don't like bothering to buy replacement patches, but that's ok since it's very easy to make replaceement patches from old pairs of underwear. You just cut rough circles using an otis patch as a pattern, and then poke one or two of the necessary holes with a pair of scissors. If you buy this kit not only will your guns be significantly cleaner in less time, you will never again have to listen the grating sound of a metal rod scraping down your bore. To a collector who loves his guns that sound can be like torture!

Overall I am satisfied with this kit, and would recommend it. There are some definite pros and cons to consider below. Pros: -The system is well designed. I personally find the Otis system to be a perfect marriage between a boresnake and a traditional rod. I feel that I am getting the cleaning capability and modularity of a rod with the convenience, portability and idiot-proof usability of a snake. -The actual packaging of the products is very well thought out. I am impressed with how compact the bag is, considering that it truly does contain everything you need to clean the bore of many different weapons. -It works. Despite all the Cons I am about to list, the fact is I am entirely satisfied with this kit and plan to continue using it for the foreseeable future. Cons: -While the components of the kit are acceptable quality, the case itself is a little shoddy. On the first day I broke a few non-essential plastic insert pieces with normal use. I would not be surprised if the internal structure of the case falls apart. -As the most popular review of this product states, there are limitations to which bores this kit will clean. See the top review for more details. -I have found that the patches are not very impressive quality. For all the talk, (and the admittedly clever folding system, which does work well), the patches are thin and leave a little lint. -My last, and probably most significant concern is simply with the competency of Otis as a manufacturer. At the time of my purchase, they advertise size #35 and #38 brushes. You will notice that they include .380, 9mm, and 38 special in size #38, and .357 in size #35. While to they layman this makes sense, any serious shooter will recognize that this is non-nonsensical. The diameter of .38 special bullets is exactly the same as .357 bullets (which is why you can shoot .38 specials out of a gun chambered for .357 magnum), and .380 and 9mm bullets are actually slightly smaller, measuring in at .355". I emailed Otis about this discrepancy, and to their credit, they were gracious in admitting their error and promised to correct their website at once. It still begs the question though, have they been sizing their brushes incorrectly this whole time?) They seem to work fine, but its a little concerning. Other potentially relevant information: My kit came with about 30 patches, 15 for big bore and 15 for .22 and smaller.

I love to support American made products, and this is one product worthy of your consideration. Very impressed with the obvious quality of the parts in this kit. They just have the look and feel and something that is an "investment", not just a normal purchase. You can see that this company is meticulous about their manufacturing quality control. And for convenience, this kit is not going to be surpassed -- amazingly small for what is packed into it. Until you hold it in your hands, you can't believe what a powerhouse this little pouch really is! And remember that Otis has a lifetime guarantee on their products. They also seem to be a preferred brand for professionals from what I've read in my research. And AGAIN, this is an AMERICAN company with MADE IN AMERICA products! Please support this company and their employees. A few dollars more to do this? Not really -- not when you consider how many pieces are contained in this kit, and how many calibers are covered. And it's worth it to pay for quality; trust me it matters when it comes to your guns. BTW, if you go to the Otis website, they have a kit selector where you can list all your gun calibers and it will suggest the kits that will work. This tactical kit covers an amazing range. Really love this product (and amazon price as of this writing is about $16 under full retail.) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

THIS PRODUCT IS EXCELLENT!!! Don't waste your time and money with any other multi cleaning kits because you'll eventually get one of these anyways. Believe me I've did it myself. This is one of the best all around kits you can buy for the money( I paid $37). It comes with everything you'll need to clean most caliber handguns, rifles and shoth gun. It's very compact, durable, well made and easy to use. Great for it the field and at home. No need for a bore guide when cleaning your long guns( I clean mine from the breach to muzzle). I would suggest keeping the small cleaning tube for out in the field and buy a larger CLP of your choice for home cleaning ( I use Frog Lube myself). It comes with a few patches so you'll need to get more. The Otis brand patche work great, but are a bit pricey. I buy and use regular square cotton pacthes and haven't had any problems. I've been using Otis products for over a year and now have two of their cleaning kits. My first kit was the 17 & 22LR kit when only had a few rim fire pistols and rifles and I'm still using it. So, as the saying goes "You can buy it now or buy it later", your choice. Happy trail to you, partner!

This is by far, the most innovative and practical cleaning kit on the market today if you are looking for all the basic necessities for your weapons maintenance in one small, easy to carry pouch. The best thing about the Otis system is the pull cables, they are just about indestructible and just as flexible, which correlates to faster, better cleaning of the rifle bore. Similar to a bore-snake, with the added benefit of traditional bore brushes that won't wear out as quickly as the brushes on bore-snakes will. This particular kit is missing the small AP brush and the Otis lens cleaning spray & wipes, but what it lacks it makes up for in ease of use and the variety of bore brushes. All in all, the kit is a perfect addition to a shooters' collection of gun cleaning supplies, and a great replacement for outdated cleaning methods. Highly recommended for the shooter that has multiple pistols, rifles and even a shotgun or two but doesn't want to spend double the amount of time cleaning those guns than they did shooting them.

Everything needed to perform a professional quality cleaning on just about every caliper. Very well made, and durable. A ton of tools in a tiny package.
