Update 10/21/2014: All lights are still going strong after 5 more months. One is used constantly, and batteries are still good. We'll see how long they last under heavy use... Update 5/20/2014: I moved to a house that's over 100 years old and none of the closets have lights (heck, none of the bedrooms have lights). Anyway, the closets are very dark. I've purchased a few more of these now and have monitored the battery usage. When monitoring movement and not lit, it only uses 60uA or 1.44mAh per day. When the LED is on, it uses 360mA for 30 seconds (or longer if there's movement). As it's drawing 360mA when lit, alkaline batteries will be able to provide about 6000mAh. Alkaline batteries *can* provide 8000mAh, but only with a much lower load (around 25mA). In other words, for each 30 seconds the LED is on, it uses 3mAh of power, so it can be triggered 2,000 times on one set of good alkaline batteries. I've found that it gets triggered about 6 times a day or around 3 minutes total. That means that each day it uses 18mAh for the LED and 1.44mAh for the movement sensor for a total of 19.44mAh per day. What does all this mean? It means that a set of good alkaline batteries lasts (6000 / 19.44 = 308 days) or around 10 months. Some last longer as they're not used as often, but 10 months is about the average in our house. This is really good battery usage for such a bright light, and it is PLENTY bright. Hope this helps! Original review: My daughter's closet is dark so it's hard to see her clothes when getting ready for school before the sun comes up. I looked around at a few different models and this one stands out because of the low battery usage and bright light. It works perfect. Easily detects when she enters the closet, stays lit while looking for clothes, and turns off when she leaves. It's also bright enough to see everything and the spread of the light is wide enough to light the entire closet. Can't really say anything bad about it. And the price is great as well. You can't go wrong with this.

WORKS GREAT - BUT NOT ANYMORE - UPDATED 2/2/14 & 7/17/15
I've installed these for about 30 days. I have one in 3 closets, and one in the attic above the pull down attic steps. Before I had to use a flashlight, and that was a "PAIN". These units use 4 C size batteries, and I am thinking that they should last a while with LED bulbs. They function fine, and each location does NOT have an ambient light problem. These lights are very bright and the pool of light is MORE than adequate for the space that needs to be illuminated. I know some reviewers had problems, mainly they seem to stop working after a while. We will see ... as time goes on, I will update as needed. For now, I am very happy with these units. UPDATE: 02/02/14 About a month ago, 2 of the 4 lights I installed, went bad. The same problem that everyone else complained about, 2 (the most used) lights simply stayed on for about a day and a half until the batteries died. I really liked these, but they seem to have a year lifetime on them. The 2 that are used rarely are still working fine (Attic and seldom used closet). Since these were a bit expensive, I am going to replace them with much cheaper motion led lights. Buying expensive ones did nothing but cost more for "junk". I brought the 5 stars down to 2 stars, as these appear to be "disposable" lights WITH ABOUT 1 YEAR OF USE ON THEM. UPDATE: 07/17/15 After getting the comment from the company, I emailed them and received a reply that as the batteries ran down, the light would function erratically. Since when the lights stayed on, it still appeared very bright, I assumed the unit was acting up and not batteries.. Luckily, I did NOT throw out the lights. I put new batteries in both "bad" units, and they started to work as normal. I will update again after a few months to see if they stay fixed.

Complete Darkness Overcome
This is a great little light except for the fact that the light will only go on in complete darkness, as per the instructions in bold type. I wanted to use it in a bathroom, however the lack of total darkness and the ambient lighting over my bath tub, even with the shower curtain closed, prevented it from triggering on I solved this problem by modifying the unit's photocell which is located beneath the semi-transparent dome. Invert the unit on a soft cloth so as not to scratch the lens. Remove the "guts" of the unit by carefully releasing each of the four snap clips, adjacent to the batteries. This in effect removes the exterior case from the batteries and circuit board. If you examine the circuit board, you will notice two components that sit below the milky dome. One is the circular motion detector and it has a small square window. The other adjacent component is the photocell which detects the ambient light level. It sits closer to the circuit board with a back and forth grid like element on its top. This photocell must be completely isolated from receiving any light. Using black vinyl electrical tape, I cut small pieces of tape and placed them around the bottom of the photocell to cut off any light passing up through the circuit board and reaching the sensor. I even slid a small piece below the photocell, between its two leads just to be sure. Next I fashioned a small cylinder of tape just large enough to fit around the photocell. After closing off one end, I slid it over the photocell, kind of like a little hat and secured it into place. Technically the photocell will now present only a small resistance to the circuit even in bright light. Assemble the unit taking care to position the milky dome back over the motion sensor and the photocell. Mine now triggers on perfectly regardless of the ambient light in the bathroom when I stand in the bathtub to take a shower.

I ordered this for the inside of a cargo trailer, so that in the dark, with hands full, I'd be able to see. It serves the purpose with a great amount of light so perfectly that I bought more, specifically for the bathroom in our camper trailer so when the kids have to go to the bathroom in the night, there is no fumbling for a switch. I also put one in the utility room in my house so if the power goes out in i can see the electrical panel to switch to generator. Again, perfect amount of light. Pros: lots of light, and the motion sensor design and sensitivity is fantastic. Works exactly as I'd wanted and hoped. Cons: none. It is a bit heavy because of the C batteries, and I was worried that it may not stay connected to its base on the ceiling, but even on the roughest of roads it's right where it belongs when we get there. They are a bit pricy, but functionality is great.

The low-set keyhole of my front door mortice lock is in deep shadow in my porchway at night. I'd been meaning to put a light in for years, but getting an electrician or doing wiring yourself is such a hassle, for something small. Voila, white LED's solved my problem. I will, for about the third time in an Amazon review, draw people's attention to the three brilliant Japanese scientists whose work led to these gadgets and a well-deserved Nobel Prize. Credit is also due to the engineers who eventually made the white LED mass produceable and affordable. It's good to include the designers at Mr. Beams for praise too. This is a brilliant light (in both senses) and while a little expensive, it's much cheaper, again, than getting in an electrician. The light solves my problem with the keyhole perfectly, and indeed illuminates the whole (small) porch more than adequately. Be careful to place it, as I did, carefully so the shadow of your own body blocks the light as little as possible, if like me you are concerned about a particular feature such as a keyhole. However, the general feeling of cheer, to have a dark enclosed porch illuminated on your arrival, is also good in itself. The light does not seem to come on unnecessarily often ... my porch has no door of its own, and is about 15 feet from people passing on the pavement. Also, the light switches off quickly when nearby motion ceases, in particular when I close the door. The only small criticism: the supplied screws are not fantastic, so be prepared to have some better screws ready if you end up chewing the heads with a power screwdriver as I did. Or just be particularly careful. Very glad I bought this in time for winter. The instructions are good, and apart from the debatable screws, assembly and fitting is easy. The plastic is rather good quality and should be durable in an outdoor position, but protected from rain and the worst of winds, as in my case. I don't think it's intended for full outdoor use and am not sure it would be 100% waterproof ... but that's not the brief here, just letting people know. As noted in the product description, it doesn't come with batteries, and I am trying 4x C-cell "hybrid" NiMH rechargeables. If I get a chance, I will report on the battery life I get.

Buen producto, lo puse en una puerta y da una iluminación moderada pero es suficiente para poder ver las llaves y las cerraduras.

Bright enough for me to find things in my 8 x 6 foot shed:-) But it took me quite a while to re-assemble it because I found the re-assembly instructions rather difficult to understand. This is because both plates have the word TOP on one side, which I took to mean the sides with TOP on go at the top. But only the word TOP on the plate that you screw to the main body with a thumb screw does go at the top - whilst the word TOP on the plate that fixes to the wall/ceiling needs to be facing towards the light and NOT towards the ceiling as TOP suggests! Also, there are arrows on the sides of the casing that say UNLOCK < and > LOCK, but I finally worked out that they only apply to the plate that fixes to the wall or ceiling and NOT to the plate that screws directly on top of the main body with a plastic thumb screw. The light I received was also faulty as the circumference of the silicon or rubber seal was too long for the channel and looped out of it, no matter how many times I tried to press it back into the channel. So I had to return it for a replacement. Update 15 Oct 2018. The replacement I received in Oct/Nov 2014 is still going strong as you can see from the photo I took 10 minutes ago! Every time I open the shed door in low light conditions, the light still comes on and allows me to see everything in my shed. Fantastic. Will definitely buy another when it finally gives up the ghost.

It is working well in the first week. It is in a poorly lit but not-fully-dark area and I did want it to work during daylight hours: so as per google'd articles, I opened it up and covered the light sensor. Now it is a movement-only detector and is working fine. Various reviewed talk about insufficient battery life, but I will see how it goes. I will probably have to invest in even more batteries because of my tampering. I haven't tried rechargeable batteries yet, but that could be a solution. The only downside is that it is not that it is not a very bright light at only 100 Lumens. I guess it's ok given the tradeoff of battery life. In the end, the light is successful in it's purposes: to avoid having people stumbling around at night but also providing additional illumination in a dark stairwell area, for safety.
