how to measure head for cap

After searching I realized the typical measuremets are: S - 21 - 22 inches M - 22 - 23 inches L - 23 - 24 inches Then I measured myself and realized I'm almsot at 23 inches which leaves me in the Medium bracket.

how do you know your size?

I'm not sure of the exact measurements, there's probably guides online if you google them. It's just that I usually take size M in things like that and they tend to be the best fit.
